while looking around for a 6.2 with low miles to put into my truck, i ran across a 6.5 w/turbo for $400. 60k on gm crate. truck was totalled from behind. anything special about swapping in the 6.5? still trying to decide if i am going to find a 6.2 or grab this 6.5... maybe both!

I'd grab it if I had the money...... That one shouldn't take any more than the 6.2 to run IIRC

no its exactly the same as a 6.2 for needs to run. 12 volts to the ip and fuel. only other issue you might run into is the oil filter being mounted horizontally, but you can deal with that easily.

X2. Mechanical injection pump on the 6.5 until 1994. Electric fuel pump, however. The stock 6.5 has a turbo oil return line where the mechanical fuel pump would normally be.

If the donor truck is being parted out, maybe you could get the engine wiring harness thrown in, but if not, no biggie. The 6.5 will have serpentine belts and such so the alternator connector will be different. Some of the components may be in different locations.

If you have a TH400 transmission, you may have to swap over your throttle bracket and the vacuum valve on the injector pump. Someone else can chime in but I believe the trans should bolt right up, no?

It sounds like you are more than capable of making it all work... keep us posted!:)

It will bolt right up.... The issue is controlling it, like you said.
