back up,need some help. Drove the truck last friday and everything was fine. Went out of town and came home and went to start the truck and figured it was dead again and it was. Put the charger on it and it will start but run for a few seconds and cut off. I noticed my charger says its charged then after running for a few seconds its back to charging. I know i need to find whats draining the battery (and have a good idea what it is) but why is the truck only running for a few seconds. what gives?

The truck may need to relearn its idle. Keeping you foot on the throttle for several minutes at desired idle will help it learn, that and the alternator will be under some strain trying to charge the batteries. You definitely have a drain somewhere and i would assume it is an aftermarket peice. Otherwise you may have a bad BCM that is not powering down and is killing your batteries.

is the security indicator flashing on the dash after it dies?

ok so im thinking its the alternator.i look at my digital volt meter and it never spikes above 12 volts for the little bit of time it runs.

sounds like bad batts, alternator, or a drain on the electrical system.

i know i have a drain but its very miniamal unless that made the battery or alt go out. i guess i need to haul the alt and batteries up to the parts store and get them checked out.

so i found my drain. did a little reading on here and checked my brake box. i had the truck on the charger for about 8 hrs and went out and my BB was smoking hot. i unplugged it right then. the truck started but still cut off and has the same symptoms.

now ive found that im sure it was shorted, what did it take with it. bcm,tcm or ecm?

i figured it out. i read a thread that was very similar to the problems im having. he said he had a blown tbc fuse that was causeing his problems. i pulled the fuse and it wasnt blown. i was like damn that sucks, put the fuse back in and all the lights came on and the truck was back alive.i guess that the bcm had to be reset? that is the fuse for the bcm. everything is good now,im gonna drive it tomm to make sure.

it could have been a number of things. wire gets cut and shorts out,old brake box. im pretty sure the brake box is done though.
