I've noticed the past couple days that my EGT PID will show the temps going down to as low as 90*, at full operating temp, when coasting down a hill or it will quickly lower when idling. Used to when pulling into my driveway it would take a minute or so to cool down to 260* before I'd turn the truck off. Just wondering if the EGT probe is going out? Chris

Chris would say bad probe also...

When your coasting down hill it is okay for it to go that low, but pulling into the driveway it should be 300-400*......so I would say the probe went for a shit.

I just got on here to post a thread about the same problem when I saw this one. Mine just started it this weekend and was doing the same to start with now it will drop all the way to zero when I let off the throttle or am under light load. I was thinking it was the probe also and now I see that i'm not the only one.

I've got a new probe coming as well - Edge was pretty good about it.

Just mentioned I was getting wacky readings, and they were working on sending one out right away.

Well today, wife calls saying Edge display is flashing EGT warning, 2400*. Told her not to worry about it, that's the part I ordered last week from Edge. Just called them up, told what was happening, sending me a new one, should get it today or tomorrow. Pretty simple to do, good service! Chris

I had a similiar issue last year. It seems that these EGT probes, especially the little black box that sits in the engine bay is sensitive to moisture. Even though it looks sealed, there is one small hole on each side of it (I think 4 total iirc) and I'm wondering if moisture is getting there and causing havoc.

Mine went out after I washed out my engine bay with just a light spray of water and soap last Summer

Maybe that's what you guys are doing wrong....I put my little black box inside the truck, and fished the rest of the cable through the grommet and to the manifold. It was long enough to do it this way, so I figured it would be best to have it indoors.

So you started from the inside and went out? Through the drivers side grommet? How the heck did you get the pyrometer through the grommet without damaging it? That's a pretty tight fit for just the 6 pin connector, but to try and fit the 90 degree angle pyrometer through there...yikes.

Perhaps you got an extra long cable? There wasn't enough room for me to do it that way. In fact IIRC, they show the black box in the engine bay along the firewall on their little picture manual. I ran mine out of the way, so as to not run it across any hot lines or anything. I supposed if I wanted to run it pretty tight, I *might* be able to get it in there, not sure though.

I can't remember which grommet I went through, but there was 2 or 3 in the same little area, so I chose the one with the most room. It was very easy to get the 90* bend through there. And with some careful routing if the cable, it's not really that tight.

I'll look into putting the box inside the cab. Hopefully mine will be at home when I get there this evening. Read 2000* at start up this morning, flashing red at me! My wife thought she had broken something, I almost said that she's probably melted the turbo, time to upgrade with twins and a tranny. But, she had the kids with her and didn't want to upset the situation more. Chris

Just tell her that tonight, when she is home & that you will have it fixed up in no time.. :D

I wouldn't be surprised if my wife gets on here and checks my posts!:D My 4 year old son likes to tell mommy what I'm doing when on here. He says he looking at diesel trucks! At least he knows what a good truck is at age 4!:D Didn't get the probe yesterday, hopefully today! Chris

So the egt prob is a standard thing that comes with the edge race? I may sound like a dumbass, but I just got my truck, whch came with the edge race. On my main screen it shows the parameters for the boost, rpm, and TFT, but the egt space is empty. I mean it says egt but has no value. I just thought perhaps the egt probe was an add
on and perhaps the previous owner didn't buy it. So now I'm thinking more than
likely it is just crapped out. I wonder if edge would warranty it for the second owner? I have all of the manuals and codes that came with it.

Someone please confirm or correct me. Thanks!

The previous owner may have never connected it. I can't remember if you can see it from under the hood, but if not take off the passenger side wheel liner and look on the exhaust manifold. You'll see a metal proge going into the exhaust if it has it on there. If there is one, then it went bad if the gauge is showing blank, but my guess is he never installed it.

The EGT probe comes with the Edge Race EVO, look at where the Evo plugs into the OBDII port, you should see a second wire plug into the side of the Evo plug. It's about a 1/8" wide wire. If it's not there, no egt probe. If there, it's not working. It's $75 or so to get a new one from Edge if no warranty. Chris

If it is connected.. Select a different setting & then go back & select it & then it is there... Sometimes the first time you have to do that...

Just looked at where the evo plugs into the obd port. I can see what your talkng about where the cable splits and there is a second plug. There is nothing connected to it. So I guess I do not have the egt probe. Gonna have to get that I guess. Is there very much to the install?

Plug, it in the back of the unit. Drill & tap a hole & theard the probe in.. Pretty simple. Pull the pass. side inner fender protector off. Turn the truck on right before you drill & tap. The metal shaving will get blow out then. You are good to go.

It is so easy a caveman can do it!

Well I got around to getting the new EGT probe installed, ran the "black box" inside the truck, had plenty of cable, ran it out the rubber grommet under the brake master cylinder. Time will tell if it works longer with the box being inside the truck. Chris
