I know it's been discussed numerous times, and people have varying opinions, but I have a few questions regarding first time oil changes and low oil pressure readings.

Basically, I've got 390 on my odometer and am wondering if I should have it changed at 500 or 1000. Seems like no definitive answer on the subject, but what's best for the 6.6?

Type of oil is surely based on preference.

Today going to lunch I noticed my oil pressure reading to be low (i think) while idling. It is slightly below the 1/4 mark on the oil pressure reading, about 2 marks from the red markings. What's the story here? I believe I recall reading something about this.

When driving it rises back up to normal readings.

Any suggestions or forwarded threads from an earlier post will be comforting.

the lly runs lower oil pressures. i run about 25-30 psi at idle and about 55-60 at cruise. my buddy has an '02 and he runs close to 80 psi at cruise.

Oil pressure is reacting normal. Oil change interval is a personal preference. Think it best not to exceed the change intervals recommended in your owners manual. Make sure any oil used is correctly rated for diesel service. I stick with Shell Rotella but that to is simply a preference. Other good stuff out there.

I'd at least change oil for the first time at 1K or sooner. I use Chevron Delo 400 and AC Delco oil filters (factory). Also check your tranny and differential levels to make sure GM filled them all the way. You may want to change the Allison spin on at no later than 5K miles. If you do make sure you keep the magnet from the old filter for the new filter. Just my .02.
