I'm needing some expert help here from the diesel folks. A guy i our Jeep club is selling his 65 3500 extra cab. Here's the scoop.
-167K mi
-all new steering (ie. tie-rods box etc..)
-all new brakes front to back (calipers and all)
-new tires
-new trans. w/ 3500 stall torque converter
-new fluids front to back
-80 lb injectors
-190 plate
He said the gearing is either 3.55 of 3.73. He couldn't remember. The truck is in excellent shape in and out. He said he's getting 18 mpg on the Hwy. I thought that was a little low. All this for just $11k.
I've never owned a diesel before. Are they that much more of a pain than a gas motor? I put a lot of miles on a vehicle so, I was thinking Diesel for the longivity of the motor. My primary purpose would be back and forth to work, towing my Jeep to runs and I will eventually get a camper. Any advice on what to look for and focus on when I go look at it Fri. would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help.
