While at Kragen Auto, per my Castrol thread, I saw two different types of Power Service, which bottle are more of you using and why? The silver or the white? Thanks in advance!!

Silver.

The white is the same as the silver, except for the addition of anti-gel for cold weather.

:exactly:

White bottle for cold temps, silver for warm temps.

I haven't used power service in a while but I once talked to a salesman and was told the gray bottle had a little more cetane improver, lubricity additive and cleaner. This is because the wax modifier takes up quite a bit of room in the package. Good product either way but if temps are warm enough I'd go with the gray.

a bear is again correct.

I use the white bottle all year, simply because it's prevelant in my area so I bulk buy in fall when it does on deep discount sale. It is perfectly accpetable to use all year. However, you do not get quite as much performance gain as if you were to use the silver bottle for summer. Unfortunately, in my area, the silter bottle never goes on sale and is quite pricey. It's just more cost effective for me to run White all year.

i know the silver works as a cleaner--i had an injector that was a little weak 4.2 balance rate, after running one take with it in there it now has a 2.2 balance rate good stuff in my book

Thanks for the input..and Power Service and Stanadyne are the only "approved" fluids by GM right? Haven't seen Stanadyne at Kragen or Pep Boys. Does Stanadyne do the same thing as PS? Thanks again for the help!

Both are very similar and both will do essentially the same job for you.

We have both the silver and white PS products available here. I've been using the silver here in north Idaho because the fuels here all have sufficient anti-gelling additives added during the cold months.

In addition, the silver provides approx. 6 number cetane boost versus the white @ 4. It also has injector cleaner and lubricity additives similar to the white bottle.

The other additives I regularly use are the FPPF products:
Fuel Power (http://www.fppf.com/fuelpower.asp)
Diesel Injector Cleaner (http://www.fppf.com/dieselfuelinjectorcleaner.asp)Yeah, maybe a little paranoid, but it's cheap if I can get a little more life out of these LB7 injectors. I'll be thrilled if I can get 130K miles on this second set!

Probably won't find Stanadyne at the popular places, you'll have to find a truck shop or order it online.

I used stanadyne from day one on my '01. I was traveling a lot a few months ago and I ran out of Stanadyne. Needing to take a 500 mile trip I went to Wally World and grabbed a bottle of the Silver (which is a plus for PS). I swear to this day that my truck ran quieter. I didn't notice any better performance or fuel mileage increase. My order of Stanadyne has since come in and I started adding some Stanadyne Lubricity Formula along with the Performance Formula just fo rthe xtra slickery stuff.

I know that the Stanadyne was the only one approved by GM, but I think they have backed off of that now....probably just a marketing thing, or somebody not playing nice at either GM or Stanadyne...:)

Same here in Eastern, WA. I literally just put in my first bottle of grey PS today. I've had the truck for a year and I don't think it's every had an additive. I've never run one. I just put it in this morning.

Good for you ... I decided to start using PS Silver/Grey instead of 2-stroke oil because of another member here (our neighbor in Rathdrum) which had been using 2-stroke oil, has just started using his 3rd set of injectors in his LB7 ... WOW!

As you know, PS products have lubricity components, so I'm hoping this will be sufficient ... especially if I use the PS at each fill-up. I've also noticed that quite a few members here have only good things to say about the product.

BTW, if you're ever itching to use some highly acclaimed FPPF additives, they're stocked at the Kenworth facility next to Flying J, off of Broadway.

Sweet, right by Costco. That might be next on my list to try. Hmm, $1.50 dog and drink.

BTW, cheapest diesel I've seen was at the Holiday station just north of I-90 and Argonne. $3.01 p/gallon. No idea what your paying in CDA through.

Sorry for getting off topic here guys.

I use PS Silver and I think it does make a difference. Quieter and better mileage. PS has up to 8% better on it. Don't think I quite qet that.
I only use 1/4 bottle (8 oz) per 25 gallons. So it costs me about 2 bucks more for the fill.

i have been using power service white bottle in my 02 since it was new. i just had to replace the injectors at 98,000 miles. i could have gotten those results using no additives. i will be using a different product in my 2010.

I got a bottle of Power Service and a bottle of Amosoil Cold Flow Improver to conduct some tests when used with bio-diesel. I noticed that when I drew my syringe full of either product it destroyed the rubber seals in the syringe before I had a chance to squirt the stuff out.

Here I always thought bio-diesel was hard on rubber seals but this stuff is 10 times worse.

I run the stuff from XDP and my trucks has been running quieter. I got the XDP stuff free with my airdog. I have ran the silver PS and 2 stroke oil and i find that XDP is some good stuff too.

Power Service as of late for me as well. $6.99/btl to treat 100 gallons. Noticeably quieter engine over all, a little increase in mileage and slightly better power/pedal response

As the OP for this thread..I bought the grey bottle of PS a little over one week ago. Threw some in the tank to cycle through before our annual trip to the river. Truck sounded quieter. The real test would be pulling Chiriaco Summit outside of Palm Springs for 10+ miles and the 4.5hr drive to the river. Truck ran great. A LOT less black smoke. Fuel mileage improved as well, pulling everything listed below except for the 50, but also carrying an extra 200lbs with my nephew in the cab. I definitely will continue to buy this product!!
