: MBRP Filter back pics please
CWILCOX1828 03-23-2010, 11:28 AM Ok, i bought this new lmm and decided no tune for this one, no straight pipe for this one, no intake, no nothing that will void the warranty. I wanted to change the tip and talked to my service manager at the local dealership. He said that changing the tip won't stop him from doing any warranty work, but that if something big happened and it had to go through GM it would be a different story. I got to thinking and figured what the heck, why not find a used filter back exhaust and just swap the OEM one back in when its time to have warranty work done..i found an mbrp one on ebay for cheap with a five inch tip.
does anyone have pictures of the mbrp filter back exhaust tip thay can post or in their garage to help me make my decision?
thanks guys

CWILCOX1828 03-23-2010, 12:15 PM thanks man..are you happy with yours?
theunderlord 03-23-2010, 01:00 PM It won't look any different than a turbo back setup.

pa32rt 03-23-2010, 01:15 PM Waste of money. You won't notice ANYTHING other than looks. Yes, the muffler is a form of restriction, but the majority of the powerloss is the two items ahead of the muffler.
I did this $350 muffler delete - only to end up doing a full turbo back system later. NO sound difference, NO noticeable power difference. You can cut the end of the bazooka tip (factory) and weld on an MBRP or any other tip that fits. It will look better and you will not waste money.
If you dig around on here, you will see several of us that have learned the hard way. About 90% of the filter-back purchasers ended up pulling the whole system.
The DOC (cat) and DPF together take about 40hp and 40ft lbs to drive them. The muffler is minute compared to that.
Check with your dealership service writer one-on-one. I told mine what I had done to the truck and why I did it (efficiency, not racing) and he was FINE with it. He only said there might be an issue if I blew the truck up from injecting something or running a crazy tune. Other than that, they (service dept) LOVED the way the trucks run without the system in place.
A good example. I put the truck back to stock (ECM), but left the turbo-back exh on. So, the SES light was on, but they knew why. They go to download the new ECM update (recall). WHILE DOWNLOADING, the ECM locked up. Wouldn't start, etc. It wouldn't even show communication on the TechII. So, they kept it overnight, a new ECM came from NV, and I picked it up the next day. They even washed it.
So, just because you have changed a few things DOESN'T MEAN your warranty is void. As long as you don't "sneak up" on your service techs, they generally won't care.
Anyway, you asked for pics. So, here's what I have of mine (prior to full system):

I learned the hard way. Agree 100% with the above.
CWILCOX1828 03-23-2010, 04:34 PM all I'm going for is the look of the tip.. don't expect any sound change and don't want to cut the factory tip off and void the warranty.. seems like my only option considering my preferences.
CWILCOX1828 03-23-2010, 04:37 PM and the local dealership here is extremely strict on warranty work to say the least..and i do not want to tune this truck just to get a straight pipe
pa32rt 03-23-2010, 04:58 PM Save your money:
Just do something like this to the stock one:

CWILCOX1828 03-23-2010, 05:13 PM thats almost worse than how it looks off the factory line IMO...but to each his own

And that's fine, to each their own. I just would hate to see you spend $350 (hopefully installed) for JUST a tip. I wish I could say you would notice SOMETHING other than the looks, but it's been tried over and over again and almost everyone who has one agrees they are a waste of money.
But, hey, I made lemonade. When I put the T-back system on, I just had them attach it to the filter-back tailpipe. So, when I put the stock system back in - I don't have to change the tail. I guess that makes mine a "hybrid" system.
CWILCOX1828 03-25-2010, 12:33 PM i appreciate your concern man and you really have helped out.. i understand your case, situation, and standpoint. I wish so badly i was willing to gamble and take the risk of straightpiping it. my old lbz had a 5" turbo back with a six inch tip and a tune and intake and all the intro level goodies. My problem is i have had alot of warranty work done when my dealership really shouldn't have done it on my lbz. the dealership got in trouble for honoring my warranty under the conditions the truck was in and the warranty work that was done. GM is on their back and will void the warranty if even the tip is changed due to heating. I dont want to be the cause of my dealership getting in trouble again and they are willing to work with me even after this by going along with this idea: i want a tip other than the musket currently in place. I dont care about the sound but dont want to just replace the musket with a chrome tip for GM to void a warranty if i had to take it in. So for my situation i simply buy a dpf back exhaust for 200.00, put it on myself without having to tune it for a dpf delete or anything, and then if i for some reason need warranty work i can swap the dpf back mbrp for the musket again and take it in. Three bolts and two hangers isn't much and it seems to make sense for me in my situation.
P.S> Not trying to argue or anything, i just have to justify not having a tune or straight pipe after having these on my truck haha
alvareracing 03-25-2010, 10:14 PM cwilcox - check the "market place" (parts-exhaust & intakes) here on this site, I've seen DPF back system used for sale cheap.
CWILCOX1828 03-25-2010, 10:36 PM i've been looking but i bought one off a vendor here for 230 shipped new
CWILCOX1828 03-25-2010, 10:36 PM thank you for the advice though
