I just walked into the local parts store and they have the stuff for 5.49 a gallon. Not as bad as I expected but it is an extra expense.

Anyone buying this stuff at a dealership deserves to pay $16/gal.
The rest of the world will pay ~$5/ gal initially at most any auto parts store or online. Look for prices to drop once this stuff becomes common.

LOL...I say it goes "up" when the diesels are dependent upon it. Then the tables will turn.

Clearly you don't understand the simple economics behind Urea. Urea is easily processed by any chem lab that thinks it can make a profit selling it. NOBODY can "corner the market" on urea. If the demand went up significantly prices would rise which would stimulate more labs to start producing it, driving prices back down. Simple supply and demand economics.

Did you ever buy brake chambers (Maxi-cans) for a big rig?
How 'bout brake shoes for a big rig?
Drums?

If your logic follows for the above listed parts, I couldn't afford to reline a big truck's brakes. As it stands, the brake parts for the average 44k rear cost less than the brake parts for a Dmax. It's an economy of scale and volume, vs demand. If every truck needs it, it will come down in price, period.

If everyone needs it, it will come down? this economy and business's thrive on money. If everyone needs it, it will go up....simple supply and demand. As for the brakes and stuff..HUH?

Lets revisit this thread in a year

I picked up 2.5 gallons at Flying J for $11.99 today. My local O'Reilly's didn't have it on the shelf, and I wasn't about to ask them for it. It was easier to check for it while I was getting diesel. As stated, a full tank of DEF is supposed to last around 5k, depending on how much you're towing.

O'reilly's is the same price, BUT, it takes a day to fill the order. Part number "DEF-2.5"

my local detroit diesel/allison dealer has it for about ~2.50/gallon if you buy a 5 gallon container of it.

Cody, as for "the price going up later on when all diesels depend on it"....thats ridiculous for the reasons that the other guys stated.. It wont happen, ill bet my truck on it.

Thanks for the info McCall. All I could picture was the most unbelievably blank stare when I asked for it. I'll give it a shot the next time around.

Here are some pricing of DEF in British Columbia:

GM dealer $12.99 per gallon
Canadian Tire (Yara Air1) $9.99 per gallon
My local Cullen Diesel $11.89 including taxes for 2 gallon container
Local part stores have not idea what is.

You can see where I am going for DEF!

Princeton BC Canada
Independant, Mac's Auto $6.34 US gal
Lordco chain $19.99 US gal
As for usage, my dealer suggested a gallon every fill up.
Keeps the dreaded warning from appearing

Since most everyone has been averaging about a gallon of DEF every 1,000 miles....You must getting some great MPGs:)

Found it for $4.89 at NAPA. They had 10 gallons, I bought it all. Autozone dipstick didn't know what it was.
