I am in the process of transferring my Voyager brake controller from my 95 Chevy to my new 05 GMC (Duramax!). The Voyager has 4 wires that come out of it and I believe I understand where they are supposed to go. The truck came with the pigtail to plug in under the dash to connect a controller up to and the pigtail has 5 wires. I believe the brown wire will not be used in my case.

The instructions with the pigtail say that if your vehicle does not have the TP2 auxilliary battery then you should install the 40amp B+ fuse in stud #1. If your vehicle does have the TP2 then you should leave in out. My window sticker does not show the TP2 option although it does have the 2 batteries with the dmax, are they the same thing?? Do I need to install this fuse or should I leave it out? My understanding is that I just plug in the pigtail and then connects the wires from the pigtail to the correct wires from the controller, adjust the controller and I am good to go?

Thanks for the help, Joe

The 40amp fuse supplies power to the hot wire to recharge batteries in the trailer and to run any 12 volt lights if you don't have a battery in the trailer.

Yes, you do need the fuse. I was a little confused as well & called my local service manager & you will need to install the fuse. Any other confusion can be taken care of by calling the brake controller maker. They are very helpful. Free too!!!

Thanks guys. So I take the second battery in the duramax engine compartment is different than the TP2 option?

Correct, there are dual batteries in the Dmax for starting. The TP2 option is for gas rigs, where the second battery is used to supplement aux lights or trailer needs.

The brown wire is not used, I just did this install. I connect the pigtail to the brake controller first, then plugged in the pigtail.

I also had to install the 40 amp fuse in stud #1.
