I read the PMD thread and had a question? Could the PMD overheat to the point of being intermittent? Could it cool and then work again? I had my truck stall this morning. It started back up after about 5 minutes. Ran for about 10 minutes stalled again, started again and I parked it at work. I moved what I just learned to be the PMD over the weekend. It is away from the engine but in the compartment. I didn't realize what it was and the impact of heat.

Is the PMD on a heatsink?

Putting the PMD anywhere in the engine bay will kill it. The engine bay is too hot and electronics like cool environments not heat.

Yes a bad PMD can be intermittent. Certainly sounds like your problem.

Sounds just like what mine was doing. The stalling just becomes more and more frequent. By the time I got my bumper PMD mount, it died 5 times just going a half mile in town so that I could change it out.

Yes, I've poured some cool water on my PMD in order to get it going and get me home.
Then I bought the Heath system and have been very happy with it.

The crazy thing is it is a brand new PMD. I installed it Sunday and this is the first I've run it. I made it 20 miles it quit, another three then parked it all day. I made it the 30 miles home and not a problem. Could it have failed that fast?

I'm going to get a heatsink to mount it onto, any suggestions on locations?

So you meant PMD is not on heatsink or IP?

How do you mount it now? Is it on a heatsink? or IP?

If it is not on the IP, you are not putting it on a heatsink, it will already failed. It probably failed in the first 20 miles you drove it.

IF you didn't use a heatsink i'm amazed you made it the first 20 miles.

A PMD will start smoking after about 3 minutes of use without a heatsink. That's how much heat they generate.

could totally be the problem. id check out the faqs and clean up your grounds and do a couple other things before you buy a PMD, but it sounds like what my truck did when i first bought it. Stalled once... then not for 3 days... then once a day, then 2x a day, then more and more till it finally wouldn't start
