Last week i was having problems with my 6.5 Tahoe overheating. I parked it until i could fix the issue. Well i started easy and went to replace the thermostat. When i pulled the stat out i found a piece of metal about the size of a dime sitting just below the stat on the crossover tube. I pulled it out and it looked like a piece off of a threaded fitting. It also looked beat up, so i guess it went through the pump. When i ran the truck again it still ran hot. So i guess my water pump is shot. how can i test this?? and any recommendations for my replacement pump??

If you found a piece of a fitting ,it most likely broke off from corrosion in the cooling system. Sounds like the system needs a good cleaning! I would replace the water pump as well as install a factory or ACDelco thermostat. That way you know the cooling system is "fresh"

Thanks Guys...I figured that was the problem. Should i just go ahead and do the full cooling upgrade or just get a high flow pump???
