I have never removed a pinion bearing and was wondering if someone can give me some tips? Its for my 2003 Crew Cap Duramax Shortbed.

I can see that the yoke and balancer is moving up and down slightly. It is also making a scraping noise when accelerating or turning a corner. The fluid was at the top of the fill hole and I removed the cover and do not see any metal shaving in the housing.

I was tempted to just tighten the nut (if it was loose), but I don't know if that is advisable? Help please.

Found that the gov lock was broken, pinion nut was loose and the noise came from the 8 month old failed u-joint. Put in a grizzly locker and back on the road.
