i usually take it verry on the accellerator, but today i decided to pass a guy and stomped on the accelerator and wil the truck accelerated like a bat of hell, I a also got burst of black smoke from the tailpipe, and while it did cut out shortly after getting on it, i was supprised by the amound and darkness of it. Is his normal for a diesel?

Yes. usually, the fuel curve 'outruns' the turbo untill it spools up. so for awhile, the engine is getting more fuel than air, hence the black smoke.

One the turbo is spooled up, the fuel and air are matched, and the smoke diminishes
