I'm looking into getting a 6.5. My question is if I do pick one up what all do i need to do to make it COMPLETELY reliable for dd? I'm in college and it will replace my current dd so it will have to be reliable. I drive 45 miles to school (& 45 back home) 3 days a week. I understand that sh!t happens to any vehicle but I just wanna know what i would need to do to keep the truck running reliably. The truck i'm looking at now is a 1994 K1500 stepside (vin s). It has 129K on it & they're askin $5995. I haven't gotten to actually see the truck in person bc its about 6 hrs away but i am totally willing to make the drive depending on the feedback here.

Also, i've researched and just want to ask... Even tho its a "vin S" can i remove the cats and the EGR and basically have a "vin F" truck?

Thanks,

Sean

The 6.5 L has PMD/FSD and harmonic balancer issues. Getting a remote PMD/FSD (out of the engine bay). Getting a new harmonic balancer and crank pulley should make it more reliable. Those are the first reliable engine mods (my own opinion). Then changing out, injectors, oil pressure switch, fuel filter and changing to a mechanical wastegate actuater.

Hello,

I found a mint condition C2500 Suburban SLT full leather in excellent shape for $5000 and it had 100K miles all original except third IP installed by dealer. Its been a dd for us now for 5 months on B100 biodiesel works great no issues. I will wait to fix anything that gives me issues but so far no problem with PMD or other problem areas except I might need a new ac compressor.

You can find yourself some nice 96-02 gassers if you dont need the diesel the 5.7 and 5.3 are good motor's,and you can find one with 100,000 all over.I have the 6.6,5.3,5.7 and a 6.5 and I would drive the gassers for less problems if it's just for daily stuff,if your at school and it's to cold outside and you cant plug the truck in you might need a ride home that day I know someone it happened to. Just something to think about when it comes to having a older diesel.

94 model is a pretty old truck. Look for something newer. Price is way to high

Diesel Pro is right to much money for a 94 and if you can look for a 97 or newer for the cooling upgrade.

Heck, my '97 has been my DD for 5 years. Solid truck all the way with a few cheap mods.
