valve body and i think a tcm update.

on a side note i dont think the lly's had a 6speed. i think that started with the lbz's

Actually the 2006 LLY does have the 6 speed. In this year model, the LLY is really a detuned LBZ.
You can do the valve body and the TCM is changed but for 1600 bux, not sure if its worth it.

what is the valve body swap you guys talk about where does it come from
the main reason for wanting to do this is so i can build a better trans
i build very heavy duty transmissions on a regular basis but the 5 speed really to me a throw away trans ( offset pistons ) the 6 speed has much better potential for a very strong streetable trans
my only problem is i dont mess with these small trans enough to know what interchanges
i red alot of profiles on this web site and seems like you guys know the parts
thanks

first off I suggest you learn how an allison works...

swapping the valve body isnt gonna do crap for you. The trans will still be 5-speed unless you change the TCM. Which is only available from suncoast, and its expensive.

i got the tcm figured out (NOT STUPID)
in case you didnt read above I work on and diagnose heavy duty transmissions
automatic trans from turbine powered equiptment
the allison in the duramax pick-up is a poor excuse for a trans
i have torn apart and rebuilt several 5 and 6 speed
i understand the power flow function of all parts
what i wanted to know is were the valve body comes from
i dont do enough custom mods to these trans to know were to get the parts
as far as the tcm goes one phone call i can have one
thanks for your help

how did you figure the TCM out, so you got a 3rd gen 6-speed TCM to work with a 5-speed trans???

ithe allison in the duramax pick-up is a poor excuse for a trans

then how, in your expert opinion, could it be made better? What is so shitty about it?

i have torn apart and rebuilt several 5 and 6 speed
i understand the power flow function of all parts

obviously you dont if you are saying "the 5 speed is a throw away trans and the 6-speed is better suited to big power"

iwhat i wanted to know is were the valve body comes from

it comes from the allison/GM dealer, where else would it come from? You have 2 different valve bodies that will go into a 1000/2000 series. A VB for a 6-speed and a VB for a 5-speed. There isnt jack shit difference between the two except the 6-speed has 1 extra pipe on it to hydraulically enable 6th gear. (except you probably already knew that, because you work on heavy duty transmissions) I dont know what you are trying to ask??? I thought you already understood how it all worked?

as far as the tcm goes one phone call i can have one

one call to who? Allison? Good luck; they wont give it to you. Doesnt matter who you are.

Wish you the best of luck undoing all of the contracts that were signed during the ALLISON sale from GM. An ALLISON dealer isn't allowed to even touch a GM OS in the TCM for a 2500/3500 truck, and I don't believe the 4500+ came with a 6 speed calibration that is useable in a 2500/3500 OBS. If you can get ALLISON to do this, then you will get a whole lot more than what SEVERAL big companies have tried and gotten.

Yeah that 5 speed ally 1k is a throw away trans, that's why its been used in so many MD trucks for how long now? LMAO.

i dont like the 5 speed because of ofset apply piston on one set of clutches
stock form trans is not very good
6 speed doesnt have an offset piston
tcm i have two options the one from suncoast (as mentioned b4) or i can have something built from some ppl at our tech dept (didnt want to go that route but if i need to i could)
i never said big power i said better streetable trans
sorry if i pissed you off
