: GM Employee discount question?
Bronco123 06-27-2005, 10:52 AM I am very interested in a Duramax but totally new to diesels. My question is for the diesel folks, does the GM discount really a discount when it comes to the diesels? I have noticed total sticker pricing of around 45k and the discount is about 36k. Seems this is not much off the sticker for such a discount. Also does anyone know if this includes all incentives such as rebates and so forth. Just trying to check on the best pricing and negotiating approach. I am excited about owning a diesel but do not want to get ripped off. One last question, is there a difference in the ride of the ext vs cc? I tend to like the ext better for looks.
briano 06-27-2005, 11:10 AM its a great price... $10k off of a diesel?? hek yeah!!
I used my employer discount before GM started this and the discount was about 7k not including incentives... there was a 3000 cash back, then the 1000 loyalty.. that came out very well!!
snowsdog 06-27-2005, 11:25 AM Thats almost 25% off?? How much do you think the employee price would be. Normally your looking at about 18% plus rebates, which I would guess is what you were quoted.
Thinkmoto 06-27-2005, 12:01 PM I looked into this about a week ago. IN WI unfortanately the stae has a loophole to screw over GM employees and now us the general public by taxing the discount. basically in WI you don't get the full discount like GM websites claim. Its still a damn good deal though. I have an 05 Dmax ex cab but now I want a crew cab:(
Bronco123, if that is a 4X4 and you can get it for that price I would jump on it. I paid $41,000 for mine and it stickered at $48,000.
052500HDCC 06-27-2005, 01:35 PM heck yea...BUY. Mine stickered at $49900 and i paid about 42500 for it.
maxinout 06-27-2005, 01:37 PM I just picked up an 05 dually crew Dmax/Allison for about 10 grand off the $42,168 sticker price. GMS employee price PLUS $3000 rebate. I don't see them getting any cheaper than that. MI does tax (6%) the rebate as part of the purchase price but not the employee discount.
Mine was an 05 Silverado LS with a lot of options - D/A, heavy duty towing package, power diver's seat, snow plow prep, 4x4, extended cab, skid plates.
MSRP: $42,000
Employee discount price: $35,167
Rebate: $3,000
Total out the door price including $2XXX trade allowance: $31,000
billfishin 06-27-2005, 06:36 PM I got the 2500hd crew cab duramax 2WD LS with leather for 31,600. My first chevy. So far i like it better than my old superduty, excepth the lifts are more involved with the IFS.
:grd:
TxChristopher 06-27-2005, 06:51 PM Personally I don't see where it is any better of a deal than any other promotional thing, but as long as everyone is happy then thats all that matters.
hunter04 06-27-2005, 08:37 PM Bronco, I just picked up my 05 ext 2500hd dmax/ally and love the truck. Sticker was 43,200, however with emp discount & rebate the truck came to 33,400. On top of that, I also applied $3500 from my GM master card.(When the dealer called to apply my $2500 in GM MC points, I was awarded another 1K off)!
However NJ charges tax on all rebates (and Master card points are treated as such), so I paid tax on 36+. Total for truck though was 29,900 (before tax) for 43k truck. Can't beat these deals.
(Plus I am argueing with GM now over additional GM card points that the stealer lied to me about, so hopefully I should get another $500 back, we shall see.) ;)
Anyway, I feel GM is offering some good (no haggle) pricing. maybe you can do better, but I think now is a good time to buy. JMHO
Good luck.
NC Hauler 06-27-2005, 08:48 PM Let's see, no better of a promotional deal then any other,,,,well, maybe, but with the stainless steel chrome plated step rails they added to finalize my deal, that made sticker 49,413...employee discount was 38,411...I looked around and didn't see any Ford's or Dodges that had knocked 11,000 off their sticker and saw no Fords or Dodges that had all these options as my sig. truck that was as low as 38,411...also got high book plus on my 2003 K2500HD ex cab/LB/D/A..2,000 more toward sig. truck, making it 36,400...I've been around for a little bit, and in anybody's book...THAT's a good deal....Guess it just depends on how you look at it.
Still hard for me to wipe this goofy grin off my face.
OC_DMAX 06-27-2005, 08:51 PM I have had access to the employee discount for about 20 years now. Besides a great price, the best part is that the price is defined before you walk into the dealership (price appears on dealer invoice as GMS). As mentioned above, no "haggling" with the dealer. The only place they can get you is if you decide to trade a vehicle in. I have usually just sold the used vehicle private party.
dad311 06-27-2005, 10:43 PM I bought mine almost a year ago. Sticker was 47K and got it for 37K. GM employee discount is just another sale, but still a great price.
Bronco123 06-28-2005, 08:06 AM Thanks for all the info guys. Looks like a smooth 10 K off with employee discount and 3,000 rebate. I to have about 3500 in GM earnings to redeem which will certainly help. Still struggling with ext or cc though. Leaning towards the ext. Can any of you tell me if there is a noticable difference in the ride of ext vs cc? Thanks again.
FLSTFI Dave 06-28-2005, 12:51 PM Thanks for all the info guys. Looks like a smooth 10 K off with employee discount and 3,000 rebate. Can any of you tell me if there is a noticable difference in the ride of ext vs cc? Thanks again.
Never noticed much difference in ride between a Ext cab 8 foot box and a crew cab 8 foot box. I have had 1 EXT cab and am on my 3rd crew cab. I'll only own a crew cab. Love having 4 real doors, a full size back seat and the extra room.
bubba33 06-28-2005, 01:56 PM sounds like a good deal to me.When I was looking last year the salesman told me 42000 on a truck that stickerd 47000.So I bought a dodge cummins.
9W3-HD 06-28-2005, 08:05 PM I would go with a crew, you wont regret it, its just a little extra room, always good, the ride isnt going to be any different.
lcrhpr 06-28-2005, 08:57 PM Call it what you will...."GM Employee Pricing Discount" or "Piss off the wife by buying a new truck when she drives a POS MiniVan Pricing"...a good price is a good price.
msrp: $49845
gms: $41367
3k cash back: $38367
Thats $11478 off MSRP!!
I'm very happy to say the least.
DuraDen 06-28-2005, 10:19 PM Just a quick comment. A big difference between the extended cab and CC is that you can NOT put a plow on a CC. GM will not warrantee the vehicle against ANYTHING they can remotely tie into the use of a plow on a CC Dmax. Just thought I'd add my 2 bits worth! :)
griffinm 06-29-2005, 07:25 AM I'm upgrading to the crew. The extended cab is a pain to get into in a parking lot or garage with limited room.
Bronco123 06-29-2005, 07:47 AM Drove both yesterday. You all are right, no significant difference in the ride of either, but I did notice you feel the bumps alittle more than a gasser. Guess never owning a diesel before, it just takes some getting use to. Working on a deal in north Texas, will probably take the plunge by weeks end...
TNRGreene 06-29-2005, 09:07 AM Some yellow shocks will take care of that:)
JBoyer 07-02-2005, 05:56 PM I've been reading this board for some time now - excellent information. It seems that some here are saying EMP pricing and the rebate also? I went to my local dealer and was told the GM Employee discount included the 3k rebate. Is that a line of BS??? May buy anyway - I've got the Duramax FEVER!!!
Drillchart 07-02-2005, 08:07 PM The GMS price does not include the rebate. For instance, my truck had and MSRP of 42,100, GMS was 35,600, and I paid before taxes, License and reg, 32,600. GMS plus the 3,000 rebate. Tell them you want to see the invoice, GMS will be listed on that and subtract the rebate and you'll have your correct price.
BH in AZ 07-03-2005, 04:56 AM JBoyer ..... As stated above, the trucks are sold at the employee price, which is an amount less than the dealer invoice price. The employee price is shown on the right side of the dealer invoice, next to the notation "GMS". In addition, you will also get a $3,000 customer rebate on a Silverado. So, your price on a Duramax truck before tax, license and any trade-in is GMS employee price, less $3,000.
Here is where the confusion come: The dealers are posting a price on the windshields of the vehicle. This posted price does include the $3,000 rebate. The posted price is actually the selling price, not the Employee price. I believe GM is also doing the same thing on the GMBuypower web site. The selling price there includes the rebate.
Here is general rule of thumb. Find the Manuf. Suggested Retail Price, also known as the Window Sticker price, then subtract about $10,000. This will give you a rough approximation of the selling price before taxes, license and trade-in.
RUNNINHORN 07-03-2005, 05:26 AM heck yea...BUY. Mine stickered at $49900 and i paid about 42500 for it.
mine stickered at $49,918 and I paid $36,8xx
JBoyer 07-03-2005, 10:52 AM BH in AZ (and all the rest that helped get me straight), you are exactly right. I went back and that is exactly what they had done - posted price included all rebates etc... Now I'm sitting on the sideline waiting as the truck I wanted sold while I was stewing. Fingers crossed that the GM pricing will continue thru July (what I'm reading) in addition to the rebate. Again, great forum - wonderfully helpful folks!!
BH in AZ 07-04-2005, 04:02 AM JBoyer ... In this market you need to be proactive to get the truck you want. Spend some time on the GM web sites and do an inventory search. I found my truck this way while it was still on the rail car. If you are not doing a trade-in, it should not make a whole lot of difference what dealer you buy from since they are all selling at the same price. If you do have a favored dealer, they may be able to do a dealer trade for the truck you locate via the web.
You might try sending a PM to Howard-18. He may have access to GM inventory info that can locate the truck of your choice.
Remember, the paper work must be completed by July 5, even if you take physical delivery at a later date. I did the paper work at the end of the month on my truck (while the truck was still in transit), but didn't take delivery till around the 10th of the following month. This gave me rebates that expired at the end of the first month. (I also had a straight shooting dealer who was willing to work with me.) Working the system is part of the fun of buying a new truck. Good luck.
cwhense 07-04-2005, 01:16 PM got mine for just under 32k, its a 2500hd D/A with the LS package and a few other goodies sticker price at 44k
AndrewFessler 07-05-2005, 04:27 PM The GMS pricing will be extended to August 1. No word if the Silverado $3,000 rebate will be extended.
boater1 07-05-2005, 04:49 PM i was just over at a gm dealer and the posted employee discount price was 35.157 for a 4x4 d/a crew cab, from what i`m reading here do you take another 3000.00 off of that ??, thanks.
howard_m18 07-05-2005, 05:02 PM boater1 go back to the dealer & ask to see the invoice. It will give the GMS. Price & you then subtract the rebate from that price. Howard_m18
boater1 07-05-2005, 05:12 PM not that i`m stupid but lol, what does GMS stand for ?
AndrewFessler 07-05-2005, 05:15 PM I think GM Supplier.
boater1 07-05-2005, 05:25 PM i just called over there, the price on the window says its the employee discount price and he told me that included the 3000.00 rebate, sounds like he is lying ??
Drillchart 07-05-2005, 05:49 PM may be not, some of the dealers are posting the GMS price plus the rebate on the windows so everything would be included. If you think they are lying, you could go into the dealer and ask to see the invoice and look for the GMS price and then subtract the 3000 rebate
cruznis300 07-05-2005, 06:08 PM no.. he is telling the truth.. if you go to GM.com and you select on the employee price.. there will be a * there and it says it includes all incentives.. If you want the special financing.. add $3,000 to the price and that's what you will pay with the special interest rates.
Every dealership includes the $3k in the employee price.
howard_m18 07-05-2005, 06:09 PM G.M.S. stands for G.M. out of stock. This is meant for a GM employee to go to the dealership & pick a vehicle off of the dealers lot. They used to have GMO= G.M. employee ordered vehicle. That was a vehicle that was ordered by a employee. GMSD= GM Supplier Discount. This is the one you can get if you get a GMSD# from a GM employee. It cost you more than the current GMS price BUT is a good deal when the other program quits.
howard_m18 07-05-2005, 06:16 PM Boater1, GMS= GM out of stock. A vechile that is on the dealers property. They used to have GMO= GM ordered vehicle. That was a vehicle that an employee ordered. That has been discontinued for quite some time. GMSD= GM Supplier Discount. This is the next best thing to the current program. IT COST MORE BUT it is a good deal for anyone that can't get a discount on a GM vechile.
boater1 07-05-2005, 06:18 PM thanks for your help, i`m probly going to go buy one
bubba33 07-05-2005, 07:28 PM just saw that ford and dodge are going to start the same deal wed.
aquamanjr 07-05-2005, 07:40 PM I just bought one 2 weeks ago. 2005 CrewCab, Longbed, LT trim and was out the door at $33K from a sticker price of $45K. I think it is a freat deal!!!!!
silvermax 07-05-2005, 07:43 PM Man aquamanjr you got a smokin deal on a 45k truck....I paid 36,5 for my 45K GMC.
RideRed 07-05-2005, 09:24 PM Let's see, here's my truck I bought two weeks ago. 05 ext cab, black (very HOT!!) LS, SB, D/A, 4wd, electric transfer case, power package, posi, 6 way seat, camper mirrors, towing package, polished wheels, redundants, engine cover, 5th wheel wiring, snow plow prep (145 amp alternator):
Sticker--$42,100
Selling price (GMS)--35,651.58
Doc Fee---------------170.00
Tax on that----------2149.29
Lic fee------------------8.00
Title fee---------------15.00
Total--------------37,993.87
Then (and this is the important part) minus $3000 rebate
Brings her to $34,993.87 owed to dealer.
As you can see here we end up paying tax on the $3000. Sort of a nice loop hole that works out good for the state. However I like to think of it as getting the truck for 32K and some change (selling price minus rebate).
If I would have used one of the GMAC financing options I wouldn't have got the rebate. In other words pay cash or find your own financing and you get the $3000 rebate. Guess that's why they call it Total Cash Allowance Rebate.
Strange thing is last fall me and a buddy dropped into the Chevy dealer and pretty much got quoted the same deal then----just a few bucks short of 10k off of "left over" 04 D/A's. Guess the only down side to that was the fact that all of the 10k off was in rebates and would have been subject to taxes.
Anyhow, I'm pretty pumped about all of this. What a super truck at what I consider to be a super deal.
SnowBandit 07-05-2005, 09:37 PM I am tossing and turning on if I should pull the gun on a 05 or wait for the 06 with the 6 speed... How much better MPG do you think I will get with the 06 vs the 05? I will have to live without the roof marker lights and the sun roof if I go 05..
Bronco123 07-06-2005, 02:53 PM I pulled the trigger last thursday and picked up my 05 Duramax extended cab 4x4 LS yesterday. I also searched on the web and haggled down to the price I was satisfied with. New to diesels but excited especially with this deal.
This was my deal:
Sticker $43,560
GM Discount with rebate $10,000
Trade 03 mazda 3000 $10,000
$5,000 down
$3509 GM Earnings Redeemed
Total $15,051 plus TTL = $17,069 out the door. I also negotiated a Linex sprayed in bedliner which was the reason for the wait from thrusday to tuesday. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions on the GM Discount. I have been a gasser before but love my diesel.
HDFLSTS 07-19-2005, 02:03 PM I bought my truck 3 weeks ago.CC LS 4X4 , sticker price was 45k & change.I ended up out the door w/extended warranty for 40k.The warranty added $1500 back to the price.GMAC ended up matching my bank loan rate.It was the best auto buying exp. ever for myself. In & out of dealer in 1hr, no haggling over price.Overall a great experience.
jermstyle 07-19-2005, 02:49 PM MSRP 49,867
Price I paid...
37,000 drive off...
I saved 12,867 so I'm happy!
deeslfitr 07-19-2005, 10:47 PM picked up my '05 srw 3500 D/A two weeks ago and couldn't be happier with the whole situation. what is this loyalty thingy. an extra thou off helps. truck listed at 49,595 and w/ employee discount and 3000 cash back my total after tax and additional do- dads came to 42,607.:rippedhan dealer didn't mention any loyalty thingy.
05 3500 srw c/c d/a factory moonroof and everything i could think of[/B[B] 95 2500 ext. cab 6.5 t/d great truck also
89 chev 2500 6.2 26 mpg traded for '95
84 chev suburban gasser
65 chevelle drag race car :cool2:
mlivesay 07-19-2005, 11:03 PM I just bought a Silverado 2500 HD Duramax, Crew, Sunroof, all the goodies, list was $50,492, I bought it outright for $39,099, plus saved another $2200 in state sales tax by a loophole in a new but recently recalled Illinois law on Class D plates. I feel blessed.
O'Neall 07-20-2005, 11:44 AM Bought my 05 Silverado 2500HD LS D/A CC 4x4 in June. Stickered for a tad over $46k (after dealer add ons like spray in bed liner, tinted windows, door edge guards, etc.). After the employee discount and the additional $3k rebate on the Silverados, price came to $35k and change. Very happy with this price (I also had a couple of trades that I owned outright so I got out the door for $23.5!) Very happy!!! :D
2500dmax 07-22-2005, 11:48 PM Hello everyone, new to site. As far as good deals go I think who could say 10K plus off a new Truck could be anything but good. My MSRP was 47,805 - GM discount - 3k cash back (GM will not give you the 3k w/the 4.9) So go get your low % at your local bank it's worth it, and I got a military discount, so my total was 36,800. I am just getting back from IRAQ so I got mine tax free, all equals a great deal. I see alot of threads on over heating and and service ?, and the only problem I see I will have is how the get my wife to stop driving it.
I just picked up an 05 2500 HD LS 4X4 Crew Cab. Sticker was 44,118 and with the discount it was 34,358. Seemed like a pretty good deal to me.
This will be my first diesel. It'll be the first time in 35 years I've had a vehicle I don't know how to work on. I got a lot of learning to do.
Beachmarineguy 07-24-2005, 12:18 AM I personally get the GM discount regaurdless of this special promotion. I have an 04 duramax that i bought when it just came out. It stickered for 41,000 and I got it for just over 33,000. GM is actually hurting for business and that is why they are dropping the prices so much. The dealers are taking a beating on these prices. If you have the means I hightly recommend picking one up!
1stdiez 07-24-2005, 01:23 AM I got mine for a little over 34000$. D-max, Crew cab, 4x4 SB. I was after a used one but you can not beat the price on new ones. Actually it is hard to find a new one with options you want. they just disappear as soon as they get to the dealer!. As far as ineterest rate goes, with good credit you can get 3000 rebate and 5.9% for 60 Mo.
