: New 285's mounted and torsion leveled.
mille-ryan 06-27-2005, 10:22 AM Gotta give a big thumbs up to this site and its members to start with, I did a lot of searching through here and took in everyones tios and experiences.I got some 285's put on before my trip out to Cali, and I also trimmed the front after leveling.Truck rides a ton better, no more wallowing over bumps, plus it looks pretty dam good now too .
:ro)
JhnZ71 06-27-2005, 12:26 PM Your Truck Rides Better? Did You get the cognito leveling kit?
wjjeeper 06-27-2005, 01:25 PM My truck rides better after cranking up the torsion bars too. It was too soft in the frontend.
twotone 06-27-2005, 05:10 PM looks badass
70 gsconvt 06-27-2005, 05:49 PM Is that a 285/75R16 and will that tire fit on a stock rim?? It is just over 1.5" wider. Are there any issues with the tire rubbing after the torsion bars are cranked up? I know it does drop the rpm's about 150 at 70 mph, and that's good for almost 1 mpg.
mountainstoner 06-27-2005, 07:01 PM ON TOPIC: My ride also got better after I cranked up the torsion bars about an inch anna quarter, at least I prefer the slightly stiffer, more stable feel of the truck. It is still much more compliant than my levelled Tundra ever was.
OFF TOPIC: Nice truck! I have the same color and was considering adding the color-matched door handles and fender flares; after seeing yours, I know I will now do it for sure. Where did you get your handles/flares? TIA!
JhnZ71 06-27-2005, 09:50 PM I have 285's and have the TBars cranked, i think all the way up the tire shop did it. My truck rides nice until it hits the bump stops...then yikes
mille-ryan 06-28-2005, 12:11 AM No leveling kit here, just turn to level it out.My truck was really soft up front, didnt like it at all !!!
As for the color matched stuff ,I cant help ya out, I bought the truck used and I believe it was a conversion truck, or one with all the add ons that are local dealer does.
Tamale 06-28-2005, 09:34 AM how do you crank up the torsion bars? You can only do this in the front end right, and what is considered one crank?
mille-ryan 06-28-2005, 12:38 PM Im not the best to answer this, but yes its for the front only. And they are adjusted via a bolt on the bottom just under the cab.
JhnZ71 06-28-2005, 09:55 PM On the cross member where the torsion bars connect there is a bolt on either side. Turn each about 6 turns for a level ride. YOU MUST GET AN ALIGNMENT after doing the TBars.
My advice...
Go to a tire place ask them to do it and give you an alignment and crank the tbars up.
JhnZ71 06-28-2005, 10:02 PM By the way... nice truck!!!
noreaster 06-29-2005, 12:48 AM Cranking the torsion bars is easy, just have to know how to use a wrench.
Make sure the front is jacked up, use a jackstand when underneath it.
A crank is 1-360 degree rotation on the bolt.
mille-ryan 06-29-2005, 07:12 AM Thanks, I like the truck too.
I actually did have a friend put it on the rack for an alignment for free, a hell of a lot better than 94 bucks. He said it was nice and level and was equally out on both left and right, ligned up no prob !!!
aegis 06-29-2005, 10:15 AM You should also have front end re-alligned after cranking the torsion bars.
mille-ryan 06-29-2005, 08:06 PM Uhh , I did, lol...or were you talking to someone else.
