My first post. I just purchased a 2004 3/4 LS ext cab 4x4 with 23K miles for 24K. It has the LB7 motor or whatever. The vin starts with 1. Is that a good price? Also what easy mods can I do to improve fuel milage. What chips can you reccomend? What about exhaust and K@N filter. Is there a forum on here with pictures of everyones truck?

Welcome to the board.

Yes, that is a very good price.

Mileage is mostly dependant on driving style and vehicle configuration. You might pick up 10% mileage with a mild tow tune and exhaust.

Welcome to the site. Get ready to open the wallet and start spending .

Did you mean the first digit of the VIN is a 1 or the 8th digit? It's the 8th digit of the VIN that tells whether it's an LB7 or LLY. 1=LB7 and 2=LLY.

dang..I guess I have the LLY. The 8th digit is a 2. lakingslayer as soon as I get it home I'm taking it to discount to get them 245's off of there. Gonna replace the rims as well. Are the stock rims 16"?

Yes, stock rims are 16". I'd say you did real well on the price. I picked up an 03 EC/SB SLT with 56k miles for 26,500 and thought I was doing pretty well. Welcome to the board, you'll find lots of info here -- check out the LB7 & LLY engine forums if you want to know the difference between the two, and plenty of good info in the wheel & tire forum.

I'd stay away from the K&N personally. People have problems with the OIL getting into the MAF and having to replace them. You can cut some holes in the stock air box and gain about as much benefit as getting a K&N or such filter. Exhaust is a must IMHO. Get a 4 inch Cat back or you can invest in a finger stick and EGR blocker and get a turbo back system. Also I recommend a secondary fuel filter like the Nicktane setup. You can't have enough filtration IMHO. Good luck with the beast.

If you like your truck and want to reduce the possibilities of problems, the first things I would recommend are the "Nicktane Fuel Filter Kit" (see www.nicktane.com (http://www.nicktane.com)) this improves fuel cleanliness and reduces the possibilities of injector damage because of dirty diesel fuel. Then get an Amsoil "By-Pass engine oil filter kit" (www.amsoil.com (http://www.amsoil.com)).

After that, you can focus on all the other after market stuff out there!!!
