: Help Please..... First Diesel Fluid Change
CorvetteHauler 03-16-2010, 01:34 PM I want to do all the right things for my 2009 LMM.....
I've looked over the DIY and search with not much luck. I want to do all the maintenace myself and keep the dealer out of my truck. Please someone help me with filters, oil, fluids and amounts I need for that first change. I've seen the talk about the spin filter on the Allison so if I remove the filter how much fluid do I loose? I live in the midwest so weather is from -10 winter to 100 deg. summer and will pull a 9000 lb trailer in the summer.
Thanks in advance

dnewton3 03-17-2010, 05:34 AM Not to be a total PITA, but is there any reason you cannot find those answers in the 2009 manuals that came with the 2009 truck, including both the owner's and supplemental Dmax manuals? Did you buy the truck new and they forgot to include them, or did you buy it used and someone took them out? Or, do you have them and just didn't bother to check them?
I'm not trying to pick on you or single you out, but I do think you could have put some effort into it. If you cannot find that kind of simple info for your truck, should you really be doing your own maintenance?
Further, if you " ... looked over the DIY and search with not much luck.", then you didn't put much effort into that either. There is a sticky at the top of this forum for a maintenance schedule, and I came up with HUNDREDS of posts using the advanced search feature using the words "maintenance" and "fluid".
I am not calling you out to make fun of you, but I guess I'm a bit concerned that someone who wants to self-maintain a $40k vehicle cannot even use the owners manuals to find simple, basic info. Looking over your signature, you've got one tricked-out truck, and a few other very expensive and nice toys as well. Either you paid to have those modified/maintained, or you're really risking some nice stuff on your lack of effort/knowledge. If you were competent enough to do those mods to your truck and 'Vette, then you've got skills. If you can do those, how is it you cannot find the fluid info in the manual? Or, you paid to have all those things done. Either one is OK; it's a free market. But anyone who cannot find the basic info you seek likely should not be wrenching on their own vehicles. So, which is it?
