I know some of you paid to have your transmissions Removed and reinstalled. Just curious what you paid? If I had to do it again I would consider having a good shop do it. It's not overally complicated but it sure is a good way to kill a couple evenings.

I paid approx $550 in Alaska including fluid. This would equate to about $200 in the 48 states.):h

The price will vary

You'll pay shop rates, some mechanics are quicker than others some more tedious to DETAIL that's where I'm at.I don't want ANYONE rushed that I pay to work on my truck.

My local dealer wanted a nickel but I didn't feel comfortable with their expertise. My selling dealer wanted nearly nine bills ,that was for a swap out.I felt comfortable with them but it was to pricey. That was just R&R no build.

Tough to find a Transmission shop that is clean organized and fluent on Allisons build ups around me,some are just starting to get into it,so dealer is about it.

Some day

My dealer charged 16hrs to remove, disassemble, replace C3 and C4 clutches, install transgo, reinstall trans.

Cost me about $500 to test my self control :badidea: so do your wallet a favor and get the transgo/converter installed before you destroy the clutches with the Predator or Edge.

Cost me About $350.00..........but I know the Service Manager personally and I got a "CASH" deal...............

The actual billed time was FIVE hours for the R & R and that was with no problems.

Others have spent more I am sure.

I guess it's who you know.............;)

I have heard experts can have it out in less than an hour..........

It can be done in less than an hour, during converter testing we could have the converter changed in 45 minutes from the time the rack went up till it hit the ground and we backed it out. Now I would add 15 minutes more for a 4 wheel drive. That's with two people knowing what they are both doing and working together. :grd:

I talked to a few places here locally and they wanted from $500 - 1100 to do the work... I think the first place was a good price just not sure of their experience with the trans... Might just make the trip to Cali and let Mike do it all....

When I did mine a few weeks back, with me being a novice and my brother being an experienced GM tech (no previous Allison experience, though), IIRC, we spent about 4 (of the total 12 hours we spent on the rebuild) hours on R&R. Afterwords, he figured it could easily be done in 2, once he had experienced doing several more.

Trey, if I could do it myself, you certainly should be able to do it ourself as well. Twelve hours for us novices, or one long day, when you include breaks and food. We did not drink while we were working on it; who knows how long it would have taken then!

Ya I know I can do it and I have the lift, tools and people to do it, might consider it, just have to find the time to get everyone together to do it... Still on the fence about it...

If you decide to give it a try, give me a hollar. If I am not tied up, I'll swing by.

More times than I care to remember, but it's the only way I know to get real world back to back test done.
