: To reprogram or not?

I have some perplexing questions on the RDS radios.

Since the radio is married to the VIN of the truck its in, does it require clearing before use in another vehicle, or will the VIN of my truck override the VIN in the radio?

Will an ordinary 6-disc bought on Ebay out of another Silverado or Sierra require reprogramming to work in my truck, sinceI would want to install it in the '03 GMC Sierrra I'm buying, which currently has the Bose tape/CD combo unit.

Now, same scenario, but I've found a LUX amp and proper H2 6-disc radio on Ebay, like we've discussed. I have installed them according to your instructions. Does the presence of the LUX amp make this a plug-and-play?

Just curious, since Minn-kota got burned by his dealer on his radio/amp combo.

I'm no expert but I'll tell you what I know so far.

1. If a radio has been in another vehicle then it needs to be reset with a Tech2 at the dealer.

2. If the 6 disc is out of another pickup or non-lux amp vehicle from 03 up then it should plug and play. As long as you had bose before

3. Check the year of the H2. Early 03 to mid year 04 were lux amps and radio's, but after mid 04 they went to premuim amp and radio like our pick up's.
As long as you rewired the plug end for the amp wiring to the Lux version it should be a plug and play.

I'm pretty sure I'm right but wait till the audiophile experts chime in.

I know your right with #1, but that's it.
