: Need Help
Max Mike 06-26-2005, 08:00 PM This only happens while towing my Montana 32ft trailer, I have a 2002 Dura Max Crew Cab 4x4 with 40,000 miles a Banks Monster Exhaust w/Banks exhaust brake and Boost guage with EGT guage K&N air filter other wise the truck is stock On a fishing trip to Bishop Ca, at about 200 miles into the trip I lost power,My Boost is nothing, EGT is climbing from about 750 to 1200, oil pressure, engine temp, tranny temp, all with in range, pulled to the side of the road and on inspection could not find any loose hose's, After truck cools down it will run fine, This happend last year, the dealer said it was a hose that had curled under its self ( Huh!) we had to dump the trip and spent the night at a camp ground in Big Pine next morning came home with no problem, The check engine light did come on so they do have a code, It happens on flat ground and has nothing to do with climbing hills, I will take the truck to the dealer on Monday, I can use some help
Mackin 06-26-2005, 08:04 PM Welcome to the forum.
Since you have gauges what if any power enhancer are you running? Also you should provide more information about your truck like year and miles.
Hope some how we can help if possible.Without a code or snap shot with a tech II it will be difficult if the obvious as fuel delivery has been ruled out.Such as filter
Good luck
Max Mike 06-26-2005, 08:26 PM Thanks for the reply I have updated my post, Fuel filter was ruled out last year and it did the same thing again, I wish is was something as easy as that.
dw77x 06-27-2005, 07:25 AM A friend of mine has a dmax and he had a foot pedal issue (drive by wire). It did a simmilar thing to him. Once you get the codes pulled it should be quite obvious if this is the problem.
Max Mike 06-27-2005, 01:45 PM My truck is now at the dealer, I had a face to face with the tech so I could explaine what had happened, He told me GMC did not care what my after market guages readings are, As they have no bearing as far as they are concerned the only thing they care about was the code the computer had stored, I hope he is better tech than he is at public relations (which I doubt) will keep you updated. I called Banks this morning and talk to a Tech, I explained what had happened and ask what they thought, They said it sounded like a turbo hose or loose clamp but this was just a guess, call then if I needed any help. Banks is a class act they have gone the extra mile a couple of time for me with GMC, They even found a problem that the dealer could not and forwarded the information to the dealer and GMC, I only wish GMC was as customer oriented as Banks
Max Mike 06-27-2005, 08:48 PM Called the dealer late this after noon to see what they had found out about my loss of power, First thing out of the service writer's mouth is that the motor in my rear passenger side window is out and will cost me $330 plus ( I had ask if they would check this out when I droped the truck off) I then ask what they had found out about the power loss,Stutter, stammer, Oh! the Tech is trying to create the same condition that caused the problem ,I replied Oh! You have a 12000lb trailer and have sent him on a 200 mile trip, Oh, right, you did say this happens only when towing, I then asked what code the Tech had taken off the computer (long pause) I will have to ask him, Ok I say I will wait, To cut to the chase she can not remember the code and the Tech has gone for the day, They also want me to take my truck to Banks and have them disconnect the exhaust brake then bring it back to them, I said this should not be an issue and I will pick my truck up tomorrow and find a dealer who can get the job done, All of a sudden I am talking to the service manager, when I repeat my tale of misery and tell him they are making it harder than need be we switch gears very fast and he now understands, could I leave my truck for one more day so they can run more detailed test, I relent and say yes. I will call Banks in the morning and tell them what GMC is up to now. I need a beer. All for now, Pray for me.
Max Mike 06-28-2005, 09:32 AM dw77x thanks for the reply, that was ruled out, as you can tell by my previouse post the dealer is playing the after market stuff is at fault.
Max Mike 06-29-2005, 12:55 PM And talking to every employee but they have found the problem to be the Tubro Boost Sensor, The part will be installed today and this will solve the problem (I hope) The service manager made this his project and I believe this is the only reason they found the problem, The Tech was no help and seemed to be in over his head.
I had been looking for another dealer as I thought the one I was at would not be able to help me and phoned one 30 mi. from here, after telling the service writer my problem he said that honestly the D/Max tech was very new this was probably over his head, He then directed me to the shop manager at another dealer who was the D/Max go to guy in that area, I thanked him for his help and for being honest with me, I just wish more dealers were as up front as this one, It is very nice not to have them try and pound sand (it makes it hard to walk). We leave for a 800 mi. plus vacation Saturday the 8th, Will let you know how the trip went.
