So I had my truck checked out by Mitch from Xtreme FX Tuning (good Guy) because I thought my cp3, injectors or FPR were starting go. My idle is a bit rough and when I gently push on the go peddle and try to bring the rpm up to 1000 the truck shakes and it is hard to hold the rpm there. So when we were looking at it on efi live we were able to rule out injectors and cp3. The only thing that looked off was the pulse widths, they were bouncing around a lot. Any one have any ideas if that is what is causing my rough idle and if so how do I fix it?

My Fuel filter and MAF are good.
Thanks
Drew

Can you post the EFI log? That would probably help, as often it is easier to see the data firsthand.

sorry to be asking another question instead of answering yours but what is pulse width?

What was the rail pressure doing?

Ok I will see if I can get the info for you to take a look at. I'll have to ask Mitch if he has it.
As for what the pulse width its a length of time the injector opens to spray fuel. I don't have much technical knowledge so I hope someone can chime in and explain it better.

Thanks

I didn't keep the log...the rail pressure held constant and was holding good rail pressure. I didn't look much into the stocktune because drew said it did the same thing with the ppe, which rules out tuning in most if not all cases. His largest balance rate was around +-3. However just thinking about it now it seems like it could be a leaky injector, and the truck is trying to compensate by regulating the fuel which is giving it a very fast lope (comparitive to a misfire in a gas job). I am not sure however if that is possible given the balance rates.

Drew, if you would like to meet up so I can log the truck for you and throw it up on here let me know.

I'm working out of town right now so I just bit the bullet and took my truck in to have it looked at by Grizzly Trail Motors in Barrhead. I figured if it’s my injectors I'm covered till July 2010 so I thought I better get it in to see if I could get new ones. After I told them everything the truck does out of the ordinary, and through in a few other symptoms I learned from this site, they took the truck for an hour and called me and said it needed 8 injectors. So the trucks in the shop now getting the work done. I wasn’t making oil and there wasn’t any noticeable smoke coming from the tail pipe and the balance rates were all with in spec. Don’t know how they came to the conclusion the injectors were bad but I’m not complaining. All I noticed was a bit of a diesel smell from the exhaust but I figured it was from the cold weather making the truck run a bit cooler than normal. It idled rough and seemed to be down on power every once in a while but that could have just been in my head. So now I just have to take care of these new injectors because the next ones are on me
Thanks for every bodies help.

Wicked... usually they will fight you if your balance rates are in check (as they were)... Let us know how it all works out for you :)

Ok so I got the truck back last Friday and on the drive home it sure felt smoother and sounded quieter. Then I went on a raging bender over the weekend and didn’t spend any time behind the wheel till Tuesday. It’s a little too early to tell if there is a kilomerterage gain or not but I have notice a few things. First the power comes on nice and smooth with the push of the go peddle. Second the engine is much quieter, the ticking and or knocking noises went away. The best part is I must have been getting fuel in the crank case because my oil pressure has come back to normal (after changing it on Monday). Before I would change my oil and over time once the truck warmed up the oil pressure would get weaker and weaker until I changed it again, if that makes any sense. But now it has been holding strong for this tank of fuel.

If there is anyone in Alberta needing new injectors under the special policy but cant get the local dealer to do it I would suggest going to Barrhead.
Thanks guys
