It may be simple (I hope) but what is the procedure for changing the fuel filter on 6.5L Turbo. Is there not some problem with getting air in the system when the housing has been opened.

Thanks.....John

That's why there's an air bleed on top of the filter but more importantly when you change filters it's a good idea to purge all the fuel in the filter bowl through the drain T to remove any sediment that is left when the old filter is removed. You can turn the key or jump the lift pump relay pins underhood to power the fuel pump.

Quantum Mechanic can you give me more details on this "purge all the fuel in the filter bowl through the drain T to remove any sediment that is left when the old filter is removed. You can turn the key or jump the lift pump relay pins underhood to power the fuel pump."

Here it is:

The filter replacement starts on page 6-9 but refers you back to page 6-7 for draining water. Hope this helps.

Thanks Silvy. Great job. I changed the filter and drained some fuel but only because I left the drain open when I put everything back together. Garage stinks of diesel oil now. Will hear about it tomorrow when the wife goes to take her car out.

This looks like a lot better manual than I have found out there. Which book is this an excerpt of?

Here is some more information. I did change out the fuel filter and nothing has changed. However the missing/stalling happens only for the first 10 minutes of operation presumably till the engine reaches full operating temperature. So what does temperature in the equation tell you. I still have to download the OBD codes
