can I swap my tore up 263xhd for a free 261 transfer case? Mine is behind the allison and the 261 is out of an 02 gas burner. I never offroad just occasional getting stuck in hay fields and so forth

Nope, wont fit, i went through this on my hunt for a t-case when i bought my 01. The out put shaft on the 4l80e tranny is different. So you need a 263xhd that was originally behind an allison, which could be a duramax truck or an 8.1L gasser, but not a 6.0l truck. Seeing as how the 261 is free, im not sure if you can just steal the input shaft from your toasted case to make it work. I tore mine down, but it was so burnt it wasnt worth a second look. Im sure someone else can tell you whether or not you can canibalize the cases to make one good one.

So the gasser 6.0 got the HD T case and the 8.1 and diesels got the SHD transfer case? I need to get a special took but I astill dont know what I have. My case does say 263.

Eh, im not positive, but im pretty sure they share alot of the same parts and just come in a few different configurations for different trannys and electric or manual shift. Something like 263s are electric shift, the 263xhd couples to an allison and the 261s are manual shift.....
