Questions on brakes and bolts
Went to do heymcall<sp> Brake cleaning and lube. First thing i stripped a couple torx bolts But i used the two 18mm head bolts to get to the pins. Can i buy some new pins that come with a bolt head instead of the torx? I can probably get them out by using a pipe wrench on the pin side but they will be ruined. Also is it normal to the inside of the rotors rusted to where its coming off in small chunks. I need new brakes all the way around and the rotors have about 170,000 on them. Do i need new rotors?
Thanks guys
We need a poll to see how many people strip the torx

Yes, you need new bolts. Lots of methods to getting them out, a bit of heat and some firm taps with a hammer works well to free up corrosion and locktite that they use during assembly.

Not that its stripped, a little massaging with an air hammer always helps.

Those rotors are no good. The OEM rotors are worthless and those should not be attempted to salvage.

Be sure to replace the caliper mount bushings, they are in the bracket that holds the caliper pins. Worn bushings can cause rattles and could lead to premature wear

Bushings? You mean the rubber boots things that cover the pins? Also do they sell new bolts without the torx just a good ole regular bolt head? Thanks

There is a bushing deep down in the bracket. Some of the replacement bolts do have the hex on them in leu of the torx head

I use a long drill bit, use that to 'chew' it out. clean out the bore with a brush and some brake clean and install new bushing with a good silicone brake lubricant
