Are the 8 lug bolt patterns and wheel offsets for GM's, the same as Ford or Dodge? I may have an opportunity to pick up a cheep set of takeoffs.

Pre-1999 Ford wheels will work. After that they went to the 8-170mm pattern.

I was told that the dodge/GM bolt pattern are the same but the axle diameters are different. This causes the dodge rim to be lug centric on the GM axle vs. GM stock hub centric configuration.

Most after market rims have the bigger hole in them and lots of people run them.
If the price is right get em.

Well I'm running some rims off a dodge (thanks to jim) that aren't quite hub centric, about 1/4 inch bigger all around.. They seem fine... As tim says, if the price is right get them.. If you are ordering brand new then might as well get hub centric ones.

Hub centric is the only way to go if you plan on heavy hauling. I have heard of a couple of people breaking lug bolts off on their daily drivers, when going to a lug centric rim configuration.

Not only has Ford gone to 8-170mm but in 05 you now need 18's or better to be safe! SOME 17s will work but not all as the calipers are much larger now.
