I am sure this has been covered here many times and perhaps there is somewhere on this site I can be directed so please bear with me. I have just bought a 1995 C3500 dually with the 6.5L turbo diesel. Never had a diesel and need guidance. I have no warranty with this vehicle so I am on my own. I am experiencing intermittand stalling and missfire and have read on this site that the first thing I need to do is change the fuel filter. I am so new to this I do not know where this is and what should I look out for when making this change. Thanks....John

Fuel filter is under the turbo power cover behind the upper intake.
At idle, open the air bleed on the filter or the water drain T to check for fuel supply pressure.

You have an Injector pump that GM says is perfectly fine. Have it rebuilt yourself at your cost and you will never have any more problems. The dealerships put 12 on mine (under warranty) none that actually worked right. After the warranty ran out they told me it was mine. I put 280,000 trouble free miles on it after that!! That means it could (should) have been fixed under the warranty.
I drove GMs all my life, 7 new ones! I now drive Fords 3- 230,000 trouble free miles! Never been back to the dealership!!

Picinisco, welcome to the site! If you have your owners manual, it tells you how to change the filter step by step. Be prepared for a bit of a mess throughout the process (fuel spillage). If this does not clear it up, then I also suspect as MDT does that your PMD or Pump Mounted Driver (black box mounted on the side of your injection pump) is on its way out. Good luck.

Fuel Supply system is the first place to start as QM said.
95 models were renound for burning out the Oil Pressure Switch that controls the supply pump, and the supply pumps themselves are known to quit or get really weak too.

i stronly doubt your problem is fuel filter. sounds like the pump mounted driver. pmd for short. mine did the same crap and chev will warranty them for 193000 kms. 120000 miles or in bothe instances 11 years, whichever is up 1st. if it is the pmd it may or may not show up on your ses light. suggest you take it to chev and ask to get any codes pulled. good luck

It's a waste of time to take it to a dealer to pull codes on an ODBI truck (pre-1996 models). Check out the "Tech Tips" section on Kennedy's web site (http://www.kennedydiesel.com) to pull the codes yourself and keep those couple of twenty dollar bills in your pocket.
BTW: Listen to TDG and QM. Although it may very well be a PMD / FSD problem as some of the others have mentioned, QM and TDG want to help you make sure by eliminating all of the other possiblities.
