: DEF price
dmaxboy08 03-09-2010, 10:14 PM im very sorry if this has been posted before but i looked and couldnt find it so i thouhgt i would throw this out there. today at the shop my shop director handed me a piece of paper regarding DEF. i wont go thru the whole thing but the basic of it was that DEF is going to cost our dealership $8.11. so after markup it may get to be around 11.00 and something. there will be a 3.3 gallon tank on the truck and this tank is suppose to last the driver for 5,000miles. so basically when you get a oil change you will need to fill up(for most people). in my opinion, i think GM will regret going this way. i think it is going to make people not want to buy these trucks anymore. why buy a truck that you have to fill up another tank at 11 or 12 dollars a gallon???

:eek: Thats way more than I thought it would be. By the time you buy your oil, filter and DEF it going to be 80-100$ and thats doing all the work yourself. Not too practical. Hopefully they go away from the DEF eventually.

really? huh thats weird im looking at the paper that GM sent to us and it says that it will hold only 3.3 gallons.

We have it at work for 9.99 for a 2.5 gallon jug. We have had it on the shelf for close to a year now.

Shirley, you haven't been under a rock that long, have you?;) SCR emissions control is NOT GM's brain child. Nor is it in it's infancy, either.
DURAtotheMAX 03-10-2010, 11:40 PM DEF is one of the best things, IMO. Its the reason the new trucks are going to get insane fuel economy while having over 100 extra ft lbs of torque on tap. You can have your cake and eat it to with the new LML's.. :cool:

I know its not GM's idea, but Dodge met the emissions requirements without it. I don't know about Ford with the new 6.7.

yeah the dodge is also 50 less hp and 100 less ft lbs.
If the new dmax was derated to dodge power levels I bet it wouldnt need DEF.
The cab/chassis dodge's DO have DEF. Only the pickup trucks use the "$pecial" catalytic converter. So what does that mean? They get the same crappy fuel economy the 07-09 trucks did because they have to regen 3 times as often as the DEF-equipped trucks do...
