I'm a little confused on what i need to get to put a aftermarket headunit into my truck. I know the onstar trucks and the bose trucks need some special PAC modules if you take out the factory headunit but I'm not sure if I need one or not. I've got the factory non-bose CD player and I do not have onstar on my truck. Do I need to get any adapters to keep everything working properly? I've heard all sorts of things get screwed up when you take out the factory HU like the chimes, alarm, airbags, brakes, etc.

So no one knows what parts I need to get to put in a aftermarket Headunit? I've seen things like the OEM radio relocation harness. do I need one of these?

yes, call Pac or look on their web site www.pacaudio.com they make a plug in unit that has raw wires for hard wiring a aftermarket hu and a factory plug on one end with rca's outs for amps.

if its non bose you probably only need the factory wiring harness and the dash kit. if the truck has NO AMPS this is all you need. If the truck does have amps you will have to use and adaptor to either use the amp or bypass it. METRA makes both the factory harness and install kit can actually get them at walmart

Thanks for the help guys, I think I might have found what it is that I'm looking for. http://www.jpcustoms.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=16240&cat=307&page=1 From what I can tell that looks like the module that will retain my chimes, give me a accesory power wire for the radio, and keep all the little things working in the dash properly. Hope it works out, I'll let you guys know in a few weeks.

i didnt realize they had gotten that advanced. used to be, buy the factory harness and dash kit, install and youre done.

Yeah I wish it was still that way bullydog...from what I've been reading though it's either this or a factory headunit relocation harness which means the stupid big a$$ factory unit has to stay in the truck somewhere.

crewcab,
No problem playing the aftermarket HU through the Bose amp or can you disable the built in amp in the HU?

I keep thinking I don't want the chime but there are a few times where it has saved my butt so I think it'd be better that I keep it.
