I have a 5 year old Alpine touchscreen DVD/video player in my 02 GMC Sierra. I had a simple toggle bypass switch wired in a while back and can't remember how I wired it in. It was a basic two way toggle switch, I would press the brake, flip the switch on then off and release the brake and it would bypass the safety feature on the screen.

It was two wires off the back of the toggle, but I have no idea where to tap in.

Any advice?

Um, what about that website?

go there. search.

or you could just type in "Alpine DVD unit bypass" into google.

installing a 5 pin relay would be easier, and no switch to mess with.

That seems much more complicated than my original bypass setup. It was simply connecting two wires and I was done. I don't remember if one went to ground and the other tapped into a braking wire. But I remember it literally took 5 minutes. Problem is my it's been a while and I don't recall exactly which wires.

Also that forum appears to be for Pioneer, while my unit is an Alpine.

I'd rather not have to purchase extra relays, pull my headunit, etc if possible.

Well I found the instructions...

hook footbrake-wire to footbrake (+ source)

hook ebrake-wire to on/off switch then to ground (-)

to disable safety (http://my.is/forums/#):

turn on switch

step on footbrake

turn off switch

turn on switch

take foot off footbrake

I got it working. Basically when they installed the player they put a slice in a light blue wire (parking brake wire) that had a yellow plug connected to it. I replaced that yellow wire with one going to my toggle. Then off the second toggle post I ran it to ground and it works like a champ. The parking brake light doesnt even come on like I read in other posts.
