: Question about spray in bedliners....
shootemup 06-25-2005, 10:08 AM I have a question about bedliners, particularly Line-x. I've seen some jobs where they sprayed the liner, and then had a molded plastic cover for the bed rails. I think this is what I want since I like the look, and also dont want to spray that far out. Not, does Line-x sell these, or do I get them else where?
Thanks
john
jholly 06-25-2005, 11:11 AM You sure it was not line-x on the rails? Most dealers do that.

70 gsconvt 06-25-2005, 12:45 PM I just picked up mine from LineX yesterday. They did a great job. I had the rails done, which cost me an extra $60. But if you're going to be putting stuff in and out over the sides, it's worth it. Total for me was $500.00 out the door with the firefighter/police/cheapbastard discount for the 4th of July week.
I had Rhino lining on my old Toyota and hated every minute of it! I plan on going with the line-x this time because the product seems to be more durable than that of Rhino lining. The Rhino Lining was very soft and seemed to soften up on really hot days. Because it was so soft, nothing would slide around in the bed, which is nice...but it also seemed like it would soak up anything that would be spilled on it because of the pouresness of the product. I also found that it was easy to cut or chip the Rhino Lining... I too had the rails done becasue of the scratches casued by the old plastic crappy bed liner. I found it very nice to have the rails sprayed as well. Just my two cents worth! Matt
juscruzn 06-26-2005, 01:07 AM Looking at Line-X for my new truck as well. Over-the-rail is an extra $50 - $80 dollar option. Some people opt for under-the-rail and, as you saw, put a black ABS cap on the rails. Companies such as Performance Products sell various brands. BTW: that was not a plug at all for Performance Products. They're the only company I could think of off hand. I think I'm going for over-the-rail but will specify how low (or how low NOT to...) to go down the sides.
Sidebite252 06-26-2005, 03:01 AM I had Line-x sprayed in and went to a local accesory shop and purchased bed rail caps - plastic/black - easy installation but a bit pricey - about 60 bucks. I do like the look though. You should be able to find them pretty easy.
shootemup 06-26-2005, 01:22 PM Thanks eveyone!!!!

Kendall69 06-26-2005, 11:09 PM When you get it done have the step done (drivers side) I find I step on that point getting in and out and wear the paint off - line x saves that , and makes it secure when your feet are wet. Cost like $30.00
JRKRACE 06-27-2005, 12:00 AM If you go under the liner. you might try GM's Soft Bed Caps. Had them on my 2002 and they were great. Soft and stuck onto the rail with 3M adhesive. I tried the plastic bed caps and found that they rub the paint off when the bed flexes. Could have been a crappy pair..
DMAXER24045 06-27-2005, 03:45 AM Because the thickness of the body sheet metal on the rail tops is so thin, and dents easily when pulling heavy items over them from the bed, I went with semi-rigid black plastic rail caps instead of rail cap liner application and don't regret it. The only drawback has been that the double sided adhesive holding them on eventually fails to adhere to the paint on the rail caps, causing them to come loose. I had to buy bolt-in tie downs for the stake holes. Hide-a-hook brand tie downs work best (do a Google search for etailers). I still don't regret my choice.
ssduramax 06-27-2005, 10:34 PM those plastic bed caps scratched my paint on my 02 Z71. I ended up ripping them off and mad at the same time. wont put another pair on any thing. I do like the diamond tread bed rail caps tho. as long as you rivet them down.
spoolnaround 06-28-2005, 12:51 AM I did my HD 1500 with Line-X over the rails. My 2500 has a plastic liner with plastic rail caps, as soon as I fix my bed the plastic junk is gone and am doing the Line-X over the rails again, its looks alot cleaner than the plastic bed caps.
Jperry 06-28-2005, 08:06 AM I had that plastic cap on mine I think they lasted a couple weeks. Of course I was on the back road going around 80 and one blew off in the night. The worse part was running over it the next morning a couple miles from my house and then realizing it looked familiar. Oh well some of us have all the luck. Anyway my point is NO STICKY STUFF! use bolts or rivits!
cowdoc 06-28-2005, 09:20 AM Go with the Line-X over the rails. Beats the crap out of the plastic stick-ons. Just my .02.
TruckDaddy 07-01-2005, 02:15 PM I'm a LINE-X dealer.
If you choose LINE-X, be sure to check out our new product LINE-X Xtra. Xtra is the result of joint research between LINE-X and Dupont. LINE-X Xtra is a topcoat that contains a Kevlar "pulp". It's glossy, retains its color, is VERY durable, and dries in less than 10 minutes. This topcoat is not a "layered" topcoat. "Layered" meaning like if you were to paint a liner, you would have a layer of paint on top of the liner. Xtra actually penetrates the liner and is integrated into it. Black is the only color available now, but colors are in the near future.
Brinker007 07-01-2005, 10:17 PM Spray in bedliners are awesome but explain something to metruckdaddy.
Why is it 5 years ago I got my bed sprayed and it only cost me 275$ over the rail.
I called the same place up today and they said it was 425$ over the rail.
I couldnt help but laugh. Everyone is so damn greedy.
So on a side note, I waited till they closed then went by and grabbed a drop in bedliner out of their garbage ha ha ! bastards...

 :grd: Yeah Buddy!
toofast2catch02 07-07-2005, 12:55 PM I had reflex liner sprayed in mine and I love it. It feels a little bit rubbery, but anything that is back there does not slide anywhere. Price was pretty competative, like 375 for under the rails
TruckDaddy 07-11-2005, 10:37 AM Rhino: Tear strength is 145 pounds per linear inch, temperature tolerance is 175 degrees (more likely to tear in the summer when the liner heats up).
LINE-X: Tear strength is 304 pounds per linear inch, temperature tolerance is 250 degrees (temp will never get near 250 degrees so it won't lose strength).
phatty 07-13-2005, 03:51 PM price difference between rhino and line-x? Warranty on rhino vs. line-x? Lets finish the comparasion here... I am in the market and will be prchasing a spray in liner before snowmobile season...
TruckDaddy 07-13-2005, 04:46 PM Price: Prices vary per dealer, there are no set prices with either company.
Warranty: LINE-X offers a written nationwide lifetime warranty backed by LINE-X corporate. What's better than that? You can view it here (click on the PDF download): http://www.goline-x.com/warranty_nationwide.shtml
Rhino's warranty was only with the dealer that sprayed it. He can warranty it or not. However, Rhino has been losing market share and I hear they are offering a warranty like LINE-X's. But, I don't see it on their website and you would think they would advertise that.
