1) Should I just by Diesel #2, or should I buy 20% Diesel 1/80% Diesel 2 blend?

2) The tech who got the Suburban running said that I should not buy fuel with a biodiesel content > 5%. In your opinions - true, false, somewhere inbetween?

For those of you who remember my last post (around Valentines) - I picked up the Suburban on the 20th, drove it 1/4 a mile, and it immediately quit. Back to the shop it went. Tech tested the lift pump (good), said no PMD codes (...ok, kind of a surprise). We had some suspicion aimed at the aftermarket alarm/remote start. Long story short...he replaced the fuel cut off solenoid (a part I've never seen mentioned here). It has run fine ever since.

City driving -- it's getting about 14.3 to the gallon. I'm going to take a long ride with it Monday and Tuesday; I'll see what's going on with the highway mileage.

Given the option, look at location and temp. If it's cold, get the blend, if it's not, get #2. Most places, however, just offer a straight summer blend and a straight winter blend depending on season. Winter fuel has less lubrication, is thinner, and contains less energy. It gels at a lower temp though. Regardless, unless you're running bio, keep lubrication in the fuel, two stroke oil at the minimum.

Somewhere in between. 100% Bio is safe, provided it's been properly washed and dryed, and is a quality batch. However, as long as it comes from a commercial pump, there should be no worries. With good fuel, it's actually quite the opposite from what you've been told. Biodiesel has the best lubrication available and these injection pumps are lubricated by the fuel.

It's been mentioned plenty of times, the shut off solenoid. Glad to hear it's running well.

As RC said, you can run B5 all to way to B100 as long as it is a quality batch.

for longterm storage i would buy regular #2 diesel, add biocide or dieselkleen type product to control bug growth during storage. i would mix with fresh bio. bio seems to clean tanks and transport thru hose to truck, pick-up moisture then breakdown. i remember 60 days as recommended longest storage period. add lube at fill-up and run thru filter before going into truck, 30 micron will catch bugs and clear bowl will allow you to see if water. if you don't use everyday, drain off fuel before fueling to check for water, clearbowl may be full of water and look OK.
