My 6.5 TD in my 94 GMC has 307,000 km, very low oil pressure, and a blown head gasket. I want to replace it with a quality rebuilt unit. I'm in BC Canada and have found a few places that offer this service but I'm not sure of the quality of work. Does anyone have any reccomendations? I'm also considering having my engine rebuilt by my buddy who is a GM tech. Is there a kit I can buy with everything I need? What do you guys think of the kit that is selling on ebay?

If you want to stay north of the border, I'd suggest DSG Saskatoon Diesel.

If you come stateside, I have long blocks in NEW fresh off the production line cylinder blocks at $4450US.

I have a chance to buy a 96 6.5 complete with crewcab 4x4 truck for $6000 - the motor is a fresh rebuild. My truck is a 94. Will the 96 6.5 fit my 94 model without too much hassle? The guy had the motor rebuilt and then blew the tranny - now he wants to sell it - cheap. The body is beat - the truck will be good only for parts.

I have a rebuilt Engine from Diesel Auto Services in my '95. (Maple Ridge B.C.) Previous owner had it installed. Have put over 45,000 KM on it, had it 1 year next week. Towed quite a few miles with it, PM me for cost as I have all receipts. Dan

The alt and a/c compressor changed sides on the motor in '96, ops is in the pump valley instead of behind the head, but yes it would fit.

Look the engine over good. Some people's definition of rebuild is different than others...

Took Steelydan's advice and ordered a bronze motor from Diesel Auto Service in Maple Ridge. Looks like its well built and the price is right. Thanks for your help.

Could not get the bronze motor so I ordered the new block and new heads (%25 stronger?) They did not have any rebuildable blocks - all cracked.
