I recently put a black aluminum AMI bowtie on the front grille of my chevy. I want to color match the bowties on the silverado and 2500hd badges. I bought a can of black spray paint for plastics and tried painting an old badge I got on another truck before doing it to mine and the paint wouldn't adhere to the plastic. I was wondering if anyone else painted the badges and could tell me how they did it or if there is like a black weatherproof sticker I could buy. Thanks in advance.

I was wondering the same thing I have used Adhesion Promoter before I wonder if it would work?

We had a guy on here a few years ago who was painting them with an American flag theme. Since I just rejoined, I don't know if he is still around or not. If he is, he'd be able to tell you how to do it. If he is, I'd like to get mine done by him.

Here is mine, I just went down to the local sign shop and bought a strip of black vinyl:)
Edit:It is sticky on the back and you use a plastic scraper to smooth it on and get the bubbles out from under it, I just cut a piece a little bigger than the bow tie smothed it on and used a exacto knife to carefullly trim off the excess. You can use a hair dryer to make the vinal a little easier to get around the angles as well.

No I just made sure it was clean, no road grime.

Does the sticker hold up well? I guess I'll try that on my badges.

Well it has only been on for a couple of months but I don't see any reason it should not hold up, it only cost me like $8.00 for the vinyl and I have enough left over to do the front bow tie like five more times if I should get a nick in it.

great idea for the emblems but not gonna be able to sit there and do the nameplates on the doors with vinyl too small. unless you do just the tops. (might look cool)
to piant them you have to sand each letter to where there is no shinny spots, then use an etch primer ( they make plastic prep solvents to use in between steps) ,then a sprayable adhesion promoter , then sealer , then base color and clear.
this is how we do it in the bodyshop.

Paint doesn't like to adhere too well to just a smooth piece of plastic. If you were going to try paint again, I'd say rough up there area a little bit with maybe six, or eight hundred grit sandpaper.

paint pens work well for the 2500 emblems
