: Hard starting when hot
Maxedblue 06-24-2005, 05:45 PM My Dmax on a few occasions lately spins for quite a while before
starting. This has only happened after driving around a hour and on the
restart. I figured I would change the fuel filter first, But what would
be the next most likely. No fuel in oil, running well with typical milege.
Fuel pump?

Max Power 06-24-2005, 06:00 PM Injectors. Sorry. It will get worse and at some point it probably won't start at all for you.
blaze#52 06-24-2005, 07:02 PM that is the same think as mine, no other symptoms, just hard start shen hot 2003 at 97,000 miles
Max Power 06-24-2005, 07:55 PM Guaranteed its injectors. Not a doubt in my mind.
Dirt1st 06-24-2005, 09:34 PM I took my Dmax in last Tuesday with the same complaint, when the engine was at operating temperature, the starter would crank 6 to 10 seconds before the engine would start - replaced all 8 injectors under warranty. I have an 03 with about 28,000 miles and 890 hours on the engine.
wkbrd2damax 07-11-2005, 10:09 PM Mine doing the same thing. took it to the dealer today and they said that i needed injectors as well. only 23000 miles. never knew there was such a big problem with the injectors until i started doing some research on here tonight. Does a chip accelerate this problem. It seems that there are just as many people on here without chips having problems as there are with chips.
Maxedblue 08-04-2005, 07:36 PM Well two trips to the dealer, first time unable to repeat problem.
Second trip, I drove it untill it was hot enough to be hard to start.
swung in to the dealer for diagnosis. She goes in next week for
8 new bullets.

DA_MAXX 08-05-2005, 01:20 AM My 03, 47,000mi, has just started to show these symptoms. I've also noticed a loss of power. Haven't seen any diesel in the oil or excessive diesel smell. So is this truely an injector issue ? Truck still gets 18+mpg, and drives great. Only notice the loss of power when floored. It doesn't pick up speed fast nor throw the big black cloud.
Guess I will need to make an appt at the stealer.
mc1244 08-05-2005, 09:02 PM My 2003 began hard starting when hot at around 35000 miles. Just got it back from the dealer today. They said the injectors tested out ok and could not duplicate the problem hot or cold. Hard to believe as I experience the problem nearly every day.
Maxedblue 08-06-2005, 11:45 AM With my unable to duplicate problem, I don't know if it was the
quality of the tech diagnosing the problem or nothing to measure.
For the return diag trip, I drove for around 25 miles at which point
the problem normal starts to occur and swung in for a quick diag with
techII. Injector #1 was a +5 while the remainder were aroun -2.
I realy think in maters who is doing the diag. By the way mine is
a 2003 with nov02 build date with 38500mile.

I need help.
Hard starting when warmed up, either really good or really bad gas miliage and decreased power with pulling my fifthwheel. There is also a ticking noise that I thought was exhaust manifold leak sound.
I talked to Tom Chevrolet and he is already starting to try to tell me that it is probably not in the "drive train" . It has 39,000 miles on her so almost new. What test do I ask for to prove it is the injector or not. He knows I am a woman and not a mechanic so need the advice of what to ask for and what are the ways to know if it is the injectors. I actually complained of the ticking noise before 36,000 mi but did not have the hard starting and decreased miliage or power.
ALSO i need to pull my fifthwheel about 500 mi round trip, am I damaging the motor?

i AM GOING TOMORROW FOR THE DIAGNOSIS OF ? INJECTORS AND AM AFRAID THEY ARE GOING TO BLOW SMOKE UP MY BUTT. WHAT IS THE TEST THAT IS DONE TO DIAGNOSE INJECTOR PROBLEMS? if I go in knowing just maybe they will listen to me and I can ask for the test and look at the results, what should it read in the pluses or minuses???

ddp127 08-08-2005, 10:38 PM I have a question on the long cranking times. Is it always A LOT longer than normal? I mean, normal would be 1-2 seconds at most I think. Hard starting would be holding the key for something like 5 seconds until it catches. Am I correct in thinking this way?
Have a good one!!
