Taking out the last injector. #8 drivers side closest to the firewall (the pain in the ass side) and the sleeve comes out with the injector.

I went to GM and got a new sleeve/o-rings, how do I install it? Someone said put Loctite somewhere, then tap it back in after cleaning the surface at the head side. Where do I apply Loctite? What do I use to tap it back in?

Im trying to do the job tonight...

get it all clean
'

lube the o rings

put loctite on the tip

it drives in easy...gm has a tool..but i imagine something as simple as a cut-off broomstick handle would work for a driver

Whats the locktite for? I normally use this stuff on threads of bolts, never on a flat surface

On the end of the sleeve where it mates to the head is where the Locktite goes. The Locktite acts as a seal so the coolant doesn't go into the cylinder. I had the tool to install the sleeves and found that tapping it in was a pain so I got it in as far as it would go and took the old injector and torqued in down twice and the sleeve seated that way.

Something Ive wondered....Do you have to clean the old loctite off first? If so, how do you clean the head surface, since its down in the head?

Thanks guys.. I ended up gouping the tip with red locktite, oiling the rubber o-rings and tapping it in gingerly back in its home.. what a pain in the ars! there is not much clearance on #8

Its back together with the upper valve cover on and high pressure lines finger tight. Hope tomorrow after work I can finish her up and see if it will start

I cleaned the old loctite from the head using the gun cleaning brass(?)brushes and a GM cleaner listed in the shop book...turns out it is GM brake cleaner.

I used a rotating motion to clean the surface really good....there was some left as you move up the mating surface but it seems to be ok. Removed all 8 myself and cleaned and reinstalled...no leaks over 20k miles.

I quickly installed and torqued down the injector after the sleeve/loctite install.

You hit the nail on the head.

Is the tool actually needed to pull the cups out? I am getting ready to replace all my injectors and am thinking about pulling and resealing all the cups while I am in there.
