I couldnt really find any info on peoples opinion. I am helping some friends of mine with looking at a 4500 or 5500 to haul a 40' horse trailer. Which years do you thinkare teh best ones and with what engine setup? I dont know much about these models on the engine setups and the usual problems with them.

There is not a lot of difference from year to year 04-06 300 hp 5 speed trany. 07-09 330hp 6 speed trany. I'm sure there are more differences but I think those are the big ones.

I have an 06, great truck. I do wish I had the 6 speed trany tho. My set up has 5:13 rears so at 75mph I'm at 2500 RPM, if I had the 6 speed I'd be much lower. Other than that I love my truck, 156k miles and going strong. He might want to look for features that he'll need for his towing. Things like air ride, air dump feature, cab air ride, interior comfort and upgrade package etc. Also the motor and trany are something to look at for weight and hauling.

Im with Soundsgreat on this one!!!! 6 speed and things like air ride, air dump feature, cab air ride. I have a air ride seat but for the Haaaail of me. I don't know how my passenger survives with out one for 10hr's. A crew cab Is a big Haaaail YES, could not live with out It!!! I drive mine hard on and off road, she takes a liken and keeps on ticking...

I have a 04 4500 with 4.44, Duramax/Allison combo. Tow this with no problems. the Buddy Dog and 4' exhaust help out a lot. Just wish it rode smoother. Need to take some leafs out of it and get some air bags. Don't want it lowered, just a smoother ride.

I bought the 2006 on purpose since it does not have 2007 and later smog regen crap. I wish I had the 6 speed, but thats when this one craps out.

I pull a little 6 horse with an 05 4500. On steep long grades it will heat up, but I've heard that is common for the LLY. Air ride is a must. Also recommend the shorter cab axle length if it is a dedicated puller.

We have a 05 and a 07. I love the 07, and the 05. But the 07 has air ride, air ride seats, which makes it alot nicer. HATE HATE HATE the emmissions bs and all that, my 03 3500 dmax would tow alot of weight alot better, new truck has no power and when it goes into regen it just kills it. Also the 07 only gets like 8mpg towing while the 05 would get like 12 usually.

I had the F250 moved up to a C4500 06 and my wife hates it. we have the Monroe loaded to the T but dosn`t compair to the Lariet in confort. i have a broken back and i can`t find that confort adjustment on the frount seat and long drive are not conforatable. I going to sell it off i hope to find a 3500 to replace it with.

I have a 2004 4500 with a LB7, air seats and suspension, crewcab, and Monroe pickup bed. I pull a 17K# 5th wheel travel trailer all over the country with no problems. Have thought about adding cabair ride but heard it doesn't help that much. Many people, especially IH owners, put these trucks down because they can't pull 30K#, but they do a decent job up to 20K# and don't cost near that of a IH or M2. John
