: SNOW plow vs front end..
PIERSONSLAWNSERVICE 03-03-2010, 09:14 AM Not sure if this is the right place for this thread, but I purchased a used Hiniker 9 ft plow.. just wondering if I should cut it down to save weight. The 9ft is overkill for what I need but I got a good deal on it. How are the front ends holding up with the bigger plows on them? It looks like if I cut it down to a 7.5 ft I can save almost 90 lbs... Just trying to get everyones feedback..
Joey D 03-03-2010, 05:04 PM 90 lbs is not an issue. There are guys running blizzard plows
That weigh over 1000lbs
lilweeds 03-03-2010, 06:52 PM including me! Just make sure you have some rear ballast.
PIERSONSLAWNSERVICE 03-03-2010, 07:11 PM sounds good -anyone else runnin bigger plows?
tuney443 03-03-2010, 07:14 PM Yes-I'm running a Boss 9-2 V----NOT A PROBLEM---don't cut it down.
greif03lb7 03-03-2010, 07:17 PM curtis 9 footer on mine front end is shot. but it will be with any plow.
got-h2o 03-03-2010, 07:36 PM 7.5 plows are useless IMO anyhow. I've seen guys shave 2-3 hours off of an 8 hour route by going to an 8.6-9' plow.
I run 8'6" V plows on my trucks with no issues.
Boss 9'2" here, many have different opinions on them but Timbrens made a big improvement for me.

There is another company that makes a timbren type kit. I think they were truckstar. My brother in law got timbrens and swore buy em. Timbrens were close to $200, and i saw a company my work buys from had a "knock off" for about $140 so i threw em on a stock order. When they came in i showed my kit to my brother in law and he said that it was pretty much identical. After i installed it i noticed quite a difference. A little bit of extra ground clearance with the plow up ( fisher 8'6"), but mostly it doesnt bounce and hammer as bad going down the road.
msc65 03-04-2010, 12:58 AM Supersprings makes a similar product for front and rear, called "sumo spring", that are supposed to ride as smooth as air bags. Has any one tried them?
Not trying to jack this thread, just havent been able to get any feedback on this product.
PIERSONSLAWNSERVICE 03-04-2010, 09:16 AM thanks for the input guys! I may leave it a 9fter and get some timbrens or something close..
where are you guys getting front timbrens?
Duramax Pax 03-04-2010, 02:25 PM I run a 9'2" Boss V Plow on my 2006 2500HD Reg cab. Front end holds up fine and i don't even notice the weight difference compared to my old 8' Boss straight blade. It doesn't sag anymore then it did with the old one either. I would keep the plow as is.... Its going to double your productivity time atleast for me it did.
mike vautrain 03-04-2010, 08:44 PM I run a 9 foot xblade with a set of timbrens and bilstein 5100 shocks all around that is a perfect setup Don't cut down your plow.

And there's also another aftermarket jounce bumper made by Airlift that I just installed on my ride.Ride is a little stiffer than the OEM bumpers but the important thing is it handles my heavy 9-2 Boss V just great.Only $140 from ''Our Deals Rock'',an online parts superstore.
jimskyhigh 03-08-2010, 04:14 PM firestone has a snowplow kit that puts the airbags up front for just that fix. you wont stiffen up your ride to knock out your fillings and its completely removeable with no cutting or messing up your ride. its pretty inexpensive too. Look into that!!!
poolboy 03-09-2010, 03:46 PM I am running a 9' Hiniker Scoop and love the set up. Don't worry about it, just use timbrens

They're like $5-600. I had a set and so did my buddie. Took everything we had in us to get them to keep holding air, and we deal with trucks and trailers on a daily basis. Finally realize the leaks were coming directly from the bags. Gave up and took them off. They said they'd warranty them but wouldn't give us a refund. Never got around to it.
Timbrens don't affect the ride at all.
