: Handsfree Bluetooth Duramax?
motojay 06-24-2005, 10:01 AM Looking to interface my bluetooth phone with my headunit. I will be living in my truck...and therefore on my phone. I like the idea of wireless and handsfree.
Dodge has it as a factory option. It is called Uconnect.
To quote another website:
The exclusive voice-activated, hands-free, in-vehicle communications system.
UConnect provides safe, secure access to family, friends and business contacts with one of the most advanced in-vehicle communications systems available today.
Flexible. UConnect works with any wireless phone employing Bluetooth™ Hands-free technology. The system allows up to five phones to work with an equipped vehicle. You can use your existing carrier and phone number, and pay only for the services you want.
Innovative. UConnect uses the most advanced voice recognition system available for hands-free operation and employs state-of-the-art Bluetooth™ technology.
Portable. UConnect offers unlimited mobility and lets you use your wireless phone wherever you go. Inside the vehicle, the wireless phone links to the UConnect system for hans-free operation. Outside the vehicle, your wireless phone functions normally.
Simple. UConnect uses advanced voice recognition that enables you to dial the wireless phone for you, providing a hands-free connection with one wireless phone, one wireless phone number and one wireless phone bill.
Ford looks to have it as a dealer installed accessory.
Can we do this somehow?
Thanks!
Jay
JRKRACE 06-24-2005, 10:50 AM That would be awesome. I have a verizon number through my Onstar and it works ok, but I would like to keep one number instead of paying for another..
TEXMudder 06-24-2005, 11:07 AM There are tons of kits out there. Most of them can do things like mute the stereo and use the stereo speakers for the phone.
DuckhunterInTN 06-24-2005, 11:08 AM www.jpcustoms.com has a neat bluetooth handsfree kit.
Diesel Power 06-24-2005, 07:44 PM thats too expensive for bluetooth..
www.jpcustoms.com (http://www.jpcustoms.com/) has a neat bluetooth handsfree kit.
motojay 06-24-2005, 08:31 PM Anyone have FHE with any of these?
Thanks,
Jay
TEXMudder 06-24-2005, 10:51 PM Way too expensive for a bluetooth unit. The Sony Ericsson models work great. Buddy had one installed in his GMC truck.
flduramax 06-25-2005, 01:34 AM I just got the Motorola one for about $160 on the internet. Have not had a chance to use it yet.
I will be watching this topic:D I need to find one for McRat's truck. Him and cell phones don't mix. The only bad thing about the new truck is it doesn't have On-Star and that is the only way I could ever get a hold of him
Akephalos 06-25-2005, 03:29 AM I have a verizon number through my Onstar and it works ok, but I would like to keep one number instead of paying for another..
I'm curious on this, how does it work? (Running a search right now to see if there's been something posted about it already.)
DuckhunterInTN 06-28-2005, 11:53 PM Is there a cheaper model available that will still tie into the stereo speakers and mute feature?
I guess that with bluetooth there is no need to buy, say a motorola kit because you have a motorola phone, right?
flduramax 06-28-2005, 11:55 PM With bluetooth, you can buy any kit and it should work with any bluetooth phone.
JRKRACE 06-29-2005, 12:25 PM I'm curious on this, how does it work? (Running a search right now to see if there's been something posted about it already.)
Depending on the 2004 build date, Onstar trucks may have a digital phone already incorporated into the Onstar unit. What Onstar is doing is teaming up with Verizon. Verizon will issue a phone line for your truck for 9.99/ mo. that will share your Verizon minutes. Your truck will get a separate number. This is a good deal as opposed to the Onstar personal minutes that they offer. You can have your calls forwarded to your truck after 4 rings, but the downside is losing your voicemail.
The bluetooth, IMO, would be a better setupas long as it's nicely integrated. My cousin has the UConnect on his Hemi 300 and loves it.
JRKRACE 06-29-2005, 12:25 PM BTW...www.onstar.com may have more info...
Akephalos 07-08-2005, 05:18 AM Yeah, I found it. Thanks
I made a big post somewhere describing my findings, and... I now own a diesel powered cell-phone. :)
Tel9000 07-12-2005, 12:08 AM The Parrot Bluetooth Handsfree car kit works great for me and my Treo650. About $350 installed.
Spartd 07-25-2005, 06:50 AM This looks like a great deal for what I am looking for.

Anyone found anything better? I have heard some talk on other sites about using onstar connection for all the funtions that you would have if using it for the built in phone but on a bluetooth conection. Would love to find something that uses the already built in mic, HUD, and phone option on the head unit. This thread is kind of old, hopefully everyone has already solved the problem and I am just searching wrong! Take care!
block-carver 07-25-2005, 02:58 PM I saw the parrot ck3100 also. It looks like a good system. I would like to see the same thing that motojay is looking for. I guess on-star, Gm, and verizon have a "deal". The system Dodge is using sounds to be what we would like to have. Man that hurts to say something like that!!
Anyone have any ideas??
soundwavesnj 07-26-2005, 12:52 AM I am a mobile electronics retailer and we sell and install two different kits. The one i like the most is the Parrot handsfree kit. model 3100 it mutes the radio and it has a nice display.
