VR, (or any "Beta testers")

What was the final outcome on the possibility of chipping the paint in the early designs? I know you made a couple of changes, did it increase clearance or is it still necessary to use a bit of vinyl to protect it.

So the rest of the first batch(I'm a member of right?) will be getting zapped away on the 12th?

Red, I'll take a set for my 2002 GMC Sierra Denali. I sent you an e-mail directly and will await to here back from you for how and where you want payment sent.

Awesome move on your part to have these produced. Now if GM would only do this on their own to fix the problem , I would have more respect for them.

Looking forward to hearing back the detailshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Victory Red,
Are you making a production run of 50 more sets? A couple of us are interested in ordering 2 sets. My truck goes into the shop week after next to repair the tailgate where it fell off and hit the driver's side quarterpanel.

David,

Actually I've been stocking these for the last few weeks. Monday I finally received my new stock of 95 sets of which 63 are to fill backorders(vendor supply issues).

For the month of march though dieselplace members can get $10 off a set from the posted price at www.vrstraps.com (http://www.vrstraps.com)

WOW! Rick, you are really set up nice on the web page.
I wish more web vendors excepted Discover. AS I have one, and at 4.99% APR that is the only one I will ever own.
By the way, I still love my straps, and they have not broke yet.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Well to date I've only had one customer return them due to a complete dislike of them. By the end of the upcoming week I should be at 200 shipped sets. Not sure what the recall is going to do to the business, but at the least I've had some fun.

Complete dislike? Was it...no, I won't say it. That surprises me greatly. I love mine and smile every time I drop the tailgate. They are rubbing the paint a little, but I don't care and may have that area coated lightly with undercoating or the spray on bed liner. Whomever prefers the cables is crazy, IMO.

kartattack,
Where are they rubbing the paint? Is it where they move backward and hit the recess? I thought that if this is the case, what about something a little thicker than the GM clear tape, sorta like a velcro strip where it hits?

davidz71
03-21-2004, 07:34 PM
Rick,
I just placed an order for 2 sets through paypal. That should take care of my 2500hd and my coworker's Z71. As soon as they come in I am sure one of the other guys will want to place an order also. Thanks for producing a greatly needed product. Looks like my truck goes in the shop to repair the tailgate and lower quarterpanel on 3/29.

Davidz71:

The rivets rub on the tailgate a little and the pocket (recess) the tailgate fits into. It's not a big deal to me. I use this truck pretty hard and gave up obsessing over the finish. Some clear tape or the undercoating will 'fix' it. Another possible 'fix' would be to add some nylon washers at the attach points to limit side-to-side movement. Maybe I'll take some pics of the contact area later in the week.

Victory Red

Yes one person but not who you think it is. Not even sure if he's a member here or not.

Anyhow I've always stated some paint damage can occur in the recesses of where the tailgate closes. There have been a few who have used the invisible paint protector film because of concerns over it. My truck bed has been used hard and has never seen a liner of any sort so a few more rub spots here and there don't bother me.

As for the rivets, I've been too busy as of late to rethink the attachment. I'm using the shortest rivets possible. If anyone has a good idea that won't affect the cost considerably(welding has been considered but due to the thin material I don't forsee it lasting long).

The way I look at this is no news is good news since everyone who's contacted after receiving them has only said good things with a few suggestions here and there for improvements.

Most of all I appreciate everyones business and word of mouth advertising they've done for me.

I'd hate to have the insurance company spend over $1000 to repair the damage on my truck only to have the tailgate drop again, break a cable and fall off like it did recently. It will bug me to no end so that is why I went ahead and ordered the straps. One of the guys at work took one look at my truck/tailgate and said "Order me a set while you're at it." After all, trucks used the same basic design for years until the thinktank came up with a cheaper system (which has become a problem).

Don't change them on my account! I'm happy with them, no make that VERY happy with them. I was just pointing out that those that show their trucks or worry about every little finish imperfection may want provide some anti-chafing method.

Recall or not I wouldn't want anything but VRstraps on my truck! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

For those concerned about the strap touching the paint, Jim Wilson and I have added some TrimBrite paint protection film.

wow you guys are way too kind.

Kart, I didn't take your comment as a dislike, just that if I can find another way to improve these I will. I not only made these to last a lifetime, but pretty as well, although the rivets in my opinion are an ugly point.

They can keep the recall replacements, and pry my VR Straps from my cold dead hands. Love em, and wouldn't trade em for anything!!!!!! Stainless beats cable hands down!!!!

Been using mine for about 6 weeks or more now. Wouldn't put anything else on my bed. Been hauling several appliances, and feed pallets. I really like the fact that I can look down and actually see if there is wear, plus is just give a good solid look that give me a peace of mind. Great product, great design and great price.

Rick;

I ordered a set of your VR straps before I read that there is $10 discount for forum members. I sent my order in a week or two ago. Any chance on getting a rebate? Have been a member for a few months now. Like the looks of the straps and look forward to getting them. Will definitly use them even if the replacement stainless cables are supplied by GM. I have an old-75 chevy truck with similar straps-never any problems.

Jim,

I'd love pictures e-mailed to me from anyone who wishes to send them. Understand though that if I like the picture that I will use it somewhere/someplace so if you object to having your mug appear on the web, don't send them http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Warlock, got your message and replied.
