Ok here is the situation. Yesterday on my my 06 5500 2wd I had the exhaust brake on and had to make a very rapid stop. While doing so the exhaust brake cut off, all I had was the regular brakes. Is this normal for the exhaust brake to stop working in a "semi" panic stop? The truck was unloaded as well. BTW As soon as I tried to stop again it worked as normal. TIA

I have the same thing happen all the time.
it cuts off at any speed under 15mph
some times it comes on on random days.
but not very often.

Here is more info. I drove the truck unloaded today and while slowing down with the exhaust brake on if the truck hit some bumps and the exhaust brake would turn off at above 50 mph. Now this didn't matter if I was applying the foot brake or not. Is this common? Or do I need to take back to the dealer for warranty work?

Happened to me once, under load coming down a 6 degree decline. The exhaust brake cut off (as a safety precaution) once you get over 3500 rpms, then takes a little bit of time to reset and "cool" off and then was able to use it again. I checked with the dealer and they said that the exhaust brake should not be used at rmps that high, but that's pretty strange that you were able to trip it without a load.

I cannot remember where I read it. But it has something to do with ABS coming on. Exhaust brake and ABS cannot be on at the same time.

Well that makes sense for both scenarios I described. These Kansas roads are getting pretty darn rough this winter!

I guess that makes sense for the first scenario. But the second the brake was not on. so I couldn't have set off the ABS.

I don't now what the answer is but mine is doing the same thing. It does seem to be associated with rough spots in the road. Maybe the bumps are activating the ABS, I dunno??
