My allison is sitting on the floor with the fork lift underneath it. Everything fought me along the way but nothing that I couldn't work out.

Hopefully I will have time tomorrow to tear into it. Wish me luck!

It sure is a heavy SOB. I don't know why I thought it would be easier to get at the TC bolts. It looks like it will be a pain to line up on reinstall.

I removed my cat delete pipe so that I could get the starter out of the way completely. That helped a lot.

I just want 5 minutes alone with the person that decided the TC bolts have to go in through the starter hole.

Why couldn't there have been a removable cover like on the TH400s?

I dropped one bolt into the bellhousing on reinstallation (luckily #2) and had to pull the whole tranny back off the motor. Do something to hold the bolt in to the socket until you get is started (I used electical tape).

Have fun

I droped the first bolt when taking it apart the first time. That got me thinking that I REALLY didnt want to lose one on rienstall. I just used a dob of grease in the socket and was carefull. While the trany is down make sure you have the wierd hole in the flexplate with the little paint mark as your first to be installed hole.

Yea, what Rat said. Make sure you start on the right hole. I had to go around twice, because I didn't.

Why do you have to start with the hole marked with the white paint? What difference does it make?

It doesn't matter where you start on the TC does it?

I dropped on on removal as well so I will be very carefull on the reinstall. The last thing I want to do is remove it again.

Is it hard to get the the TC holes lined up on reinstall? It looks like it could get to be a bit difficult.

Couldn't you use one of those magnetic socket inserts?

I am now done the c1, c2 and c3. Took a lot longer then I thought it would. Hopefully tomorrow I will finish the valve body portion of the transgo, c4 and reinstall.

Wasn't near as bad as I thought it would be. A bit of wear in the C3 but nothing like I've seen from others. C1 and C2 were pretty much like new.

Glad to hear it worked well..........

The rotating assembly is not bad, once you get the hidden snap rings off and get it apart.

Good to hear they screwed up and made it right! :p:

IIRC there is ONE hole that is designated the starter hole for TC flywheel alignment.
Maybe I'm dreaming.
Start ALL bolts then go around and torque, tighten.

Fill,start,allow clutches to saturate,floor it! :D

You wouldn't do it for a living? Me either, people can be tough.
But I wish my lift was in.

Max Power

Well it is back in. I only have the starter, cat delete pipe, fender shield and a few other misc items to go back in. I also have to fill the transfer case and transmission. I'm going to finish it tomorrow. My buddy got tired and hungry so I'm going to feed him some steaks.

If I did it again I would get BIG snap ring pliers and a good assortment of snap ring pliers. You can't have too many different kinds of snap ring pliers for this job. Even better would be to have a snap on truck in your driveway.

I would seriously consider paying a shop to do the R&R although it is nice to know everything is in right (I hope). I could see a lazy mechanic leaving out a few brackets, clips etc.

I would make sure I have a small torque wrench on hand to tighten the valve body bolts. It has to go down to 10ft/lbs IIRC.

I would buy the tool to compress the C1 & C2 apply pistons.

I would buy a socket to turn the crank although it wasn't all that bad to do with screw driver.

I had the transgo book and allison book on hand. You could probably do without either but they are really nice for torque specs and to refference if you get into any jams.

There is no way in hell that I would do the R&R in my driveway. I would not even atempt it without an hoist.

I'll make more notes later if I think of anything else.

:grd: I also wish I would have put the co-pilot in right away or went to a Level 4. At least I don't have to R&R to do the co-pilot if I decide down the road.

Do it right the first time. This is not something you want to do again if you don't have too.

I thought I would also mention that I have probably 20 hours into this and my buddy has probably 15. You could do a lot of it with only one guy but the second guy is definately required from time to time.

I am sure you could do them a lot quicker if you did a few but I don't think anyone will do their first one in much under 20 hours.

I think your LEVEL III will hold just fine..........:exactly:

I think the Level IV is a slight step up..........but not enough that you will need it............ .......JMHO............;)

Yes, the Co-Pilot will be able to be added later.........:D ...easier to do it all at once, but can be done later......

Enjoy it.........it will hold a lot of Power..........it has excellent street manners and with a little help from ATS it can be a screamer.............

T:cool: NY

P.S.........run it up on the lift for a few minutes under no load to wet the clutches and everything good..........double and triple check the fluid levels...........then go and get some miles on it...........like 2 or 3 ....):h .......then do as others have done..........PUT THE HAMMER DOWN...............
Oh and change that spin on at 500 miles .............

I soaked the clutches before I put them in. I will run it up on the hoist though. Thanks.

Done yet? What's taking so long?

Max Power
06-26-2005, 06:56 PM
Yes it's done. I have about 200 miles on the SC L3. So far so good. It learnt well and shifts smooth, crisp and quick.

Now I need to find some better power.

Not even close. LLY so I need the PPE and a Van Aaken I think. I wish I could get my hands on a Extreme TTS :D

So far I have:
Predator
Bully Dog Power pup
Bully Dog Dyno Dominator (Code thrower)
Edge Juice/Attitude.

I need to sell some to recover some of my costs and get something that will work. I'm not real impressed with any. The Predator with the Dyno Dominator would be good if it wouldn't throw P1093s every few minutes.

Not yet. Sounds like it could be a while too. I should probably just save my money until it comes out but I don't want to chance a loss in the mean time :D

What levels juice and predator are u running?

Max Power
06-28-2005, 02:29 AM
Nothing stacks well. I can run the 60hp pred up to about 4 on the juice, and 75hp on pred up to level 3. Not much gain on either I don't think.

I've run into the same thing with the pred and juice. I have the pred 85 tune in and with the juice up at 3/5 I get bursting at WOT. So far my favorite stack is the Pred 40tune and Juice 5/5 tune. From what I've read the VA seems to stack better with the Predator than the Juice does. I'm waiting to see if the new Predator programming helps any.
