Still waiting for my escalade wheel to get here.Hopefully by the end

I hope you did the airbag stuff correctly; an escalade airbag will NOT work in an HD pickup truck.

HD trucks have a single stage airbag, escalades/half tons have a dual stage airbag. Completely different systgems....

Just the steering wheel assembly is the same isn't it?
I was told everything was good as long as you use your HD airbag.
Did i misunderstand somewhere?

I will get pictures out soon.

I am planning on using interior paint with a plastic non sanding primer.

Air bag is original from from my truck. Didn't change any airbag equipment.

all oem except steering wheel.

Will get pictures of air bag center piece no yet painted.

Tomorrow i will post.

The aftermarket supports the wheel in these trucks, too.

Pics are good. I am debating whether or not to paint the air bag center piece.

any thoughts?

and don't say my truck is dirty because it is. I just had my hip replaced 3 weeks ago and I haven't been able to cleaner up.

more pics to come when wood gain dash kit gets installed.

any suggestions on gauge cluster? Esclade with black, white, silver, or SS face?

nice, looks good. Are you going to paint the column shrouds too to match so they arent black anymore?

Sea Wizard

do you mean below the steering wheel? down the column more.

I thought I would leave that black. Can't really notice the color difference in the truck since I have deep tinted windows all around.

Do you think I should paint the air bag center piece?

Did you order a normal plastic paint for the cover?
Just wondered how the paint will stick seeinng as the covers are
kind of a rubber/vinyl type material, that still has some flex to it.

Finished product should look awsome.Post up pics when she is all done.

I using a non sanding primer for plastics and you finish spray with the paint while they primer is still tacky.

Hopefully by the end of next week the upgrade is complete.

Another option instead of painting is to swap the airbag trim piece. I did this on my '05 Denali interior conversion. Painting will be difficult to get a perfect match. The trim piece cover is easily removed and swapped to your airbag. Just purchase a used airbag off ebay or from one of the big salvage yards. I can't remember the exact process to swap the covers since it's been a few years, but it wasn't difficult. Then you have an exact and correct color match.

As others have said, you have to keep the single-stage airbag that came stock, but the covers are the same (with the exception of color) between the single-stage 2500 airbags and 2-stage 1500 airbags.

See pics of my steering wheel in my garage for the '05.

I thought about doing that, swapping to an 05+ trailblazer airbag cover that has the "fancy" chevy bowtie badge.

But I didnt want the liability (on myself) of messing up the packing/folding etc. of the airbag in the process of swapping covers.

I may have to find a new cover. The paint is no where near matching. I have sampled a lot of paint.

Going to look for used cover on ebay.

Sea Wizard

may have found the color match issue.

Called Dr. Vinyl and they said they can match interior color and dye all my steering wheel parts, 2 piece shroud, piece that attaches to steering wheel itself and air bag center piece, to match.

Going to give them a visit tomorrow. Will keep all updated.
