I have a 6.5 non-turbo from a 1996 P-van that came with an Allison trans on it. I am putting it in an '04 Yukon XL with a 4L60e tranny. The engine has the 6-lug flexplate like the 4L80e and my 4L60e has the 3-lug torque converter. Is there a flexplate that fits the 6.5 that has the 3-lug configuration for the 4L60? Anyone know the part number or application? Is there a difference between the 6.2 and 6.5 flexplates?

no the 4l60e did not come behind a 6.5 only 4l80e and nv4500 came with them. Why not just use 3 of the 6 holes on the 6.5 for the 4l60e.

just curious......but why would you remove a 5.3 and put in a 6.5 non-turbo?!?
You will have trouble getting the instrument cluster, climate control, ABS/stabilitrak (if equipped), and 4wd system, among other things....just giving you a heads up before you start the conversion. ;)

That swap would be a step backwards in so many ways i don't even know where to start. You will probably get more miles out of the 5.3 than a 6.5 before any major repairs for sure. I have seen 5.3 engines with close to 500k on tham that run perfect.

This project is not about anything other than politics. My company makes electric vehicles, and we are in the process of traveling to different municipalities, utilities and dealerships to demonstrate and solicit business or franacise agreements. A big part of the sell is the green aspect of the EV. One of our investors asked the pretty good question of how does it look that when we show up our green car and trailer are being towed by a gas guzzling suv? As Cheif Technical Officer I offerred the solution that we go diesel and burn 100% recycled vegetable oil and wrap a suburban in decals that get us off that hook. They loved it. Now I have to build the thing and my thoughts are that it's better to run fry grease through an old-school Stanadyne DB2 than a Duramax.
So I'm stuck on this flywheel problem. I did find that from 93-95 they offered the 4L60e. Does anyone know if those converters/flexplates were the three bolt pattern that would match the 2004 5.3?
As for the instrument cluster, can bus, and accessories, that is no problem. That's the child's play part for me. It's the matching of the old hardware that's got me stuck.

If you say so..... BTW, there is no CAN in that vehicle at all. Its class 2/J1850VPW ;)
If it has stabilitrak or autoride there is NO way of getting around that and you will have to deal with warning bells and DIC messages. Cruise control will not work at all either and you might have to deal with "engine power reduced" messages in the DIC. Heated seats might be a problem too because they will only work when they receive a data signal from the stock gasser PCM that the engine is running...
I think all diesels were 6-bolts but many times they had various holes drilled in them. Maybe check the application for a 6.2 that had a 700r4 behind it? Those were somewhat common in the mid/late 80's.
Or swap a duramax in. That will be bolt in, plug and play, quieter, smoother, 10x more powerful, and just better in every single way. And you can still run it on veggy oil just the same.
Or sell it and buy a nice 99 or earlier suburban that came with the 6.5.

I would call ERIC the TDIGUY and have him build you a DURABURB and then run 100% BIODIESEL. It would still be alternative fuels, MUCH cleaner, and be even more of a GREEN vehicle. Plus it would get you off the hook to try and build a one off bastard child that will be an electrical nightmare to make even half the stuff work. Or you could find a nice 99 SUBURBAN with the 6.5 already in it and sell the 04 like it is. And the 6.5 pretty much always came with a 4L80E. The 6.2 from 91-93 was offered with the 4L60 behind it as it was a N/A underpowered engine.
