While replaceing injector sleaves (on my dads 02) I wanted to pull the glow plugs to have to make sure the coolant that might have found its was in the cyls out. I twisted the hex of the plug from the rest. the hex is still stuck to the barrel of the plug. Ive shearched but dont find this problem here in the d max section. has any one here run in to this.

So the hex is gone? Is the inner probe still intact? Is just the housing left in the head? Let me know whats left in the head, a pic if you can and I'll give some recommendations

i stoped while the hex is still there. And jumped on line looking for thoughts. I know that I will have to remove the hex to move foward. I also have my dad running for his twist out sockets and easy outs. And I am hoping while I look on line it fixxes its self .

Is there a hole through what left in the head?

right now it dosnt look broken unless you twist the hex. the hex is still on it. b ut the contact is holding it together. once the tools get back i will remove the hex. My first hope is a twist out socket on the out side of the barrel. next would be a torx used as an easy out

Get the center out of it if you can. Use a torch and heat up around the plug, this is tricky with aluminum as it does not turn orange like steel, just be careful.

Install an extractor or whatever you choose, then tap on it firmly with a hammer repeatedly. You could also try that before you pull the center out and use a socket on the hex, that may be easier to get ahold of for the tapping.

It will come out, you just have to be patient but firm with it.

is this common on the 6.6 that was only my 2nd plug on this engine. I am already being paicent this was the walk away time that most likley will save me hundreds. I wrench every day just not on diesels

Its not uncommon, but its more prevelent in the salt belt. I've had some 06 vans eat my lunch, but I still won. I've got a air hammer bit that has a 3/8" drive attachment on it, I use that to rattle em loose too, gotta be gentle with it, but its undefeated so far.

Is it a good idea to replace all the glow at the same time?
