: bfg a/t vs. ATZ vs. procomp xtreme a/t
hard2kill 02-27-2010, 04:20 PM http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/sign/sign0085.gif ok so ive been trying to get some h2 wheels for awhile now and may have a set....i plan on running 305-65-17 on them and the 3 tires im considering are the mickey thompson atz's the bfg a/t and the procomp extreme a/t.......
i have run the bfg many times in the past but not a huge fan of them.....my main question is how are the procomps and the mickey thompsons? do there side walls hold up to the weight of our diesels? any and all input would be great http://www.duramaxforum.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif
hard2kill 02-28-2010, 01:12 AM No Opinions???????
chevyinlinesix 02-28-2010, 01:29 AM Check out this thread I posted in http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=334891&highlight=pro+comp
I am really liking my Pro Comp A/T's and a couple months ago I ordered some Pro Comp Xtreme A/T's for my dad, I want to try those next on my trucks.
hard2kill 02-28-2010, 03:33 PM anyone else?
bad04dmax 02-28-2010, 08:16 PM ive got the Pro Comp xtreme ATs on my 04.5. i love em. ive got almost 40k on em and they have better than 50% tread left. ive used em on the beach, the muddy dirt roads on the farm, and on the road. they are a bit noisey on the road now but nothing terrible. ill definitely have the pro comps again
hard2kill 02-28-2010, 10:33 PM very hard toss up between the extremes and the atz's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wish i could see them in the size i want side by side
roaster poker54 02-28-2010, 11:39 PM I personally run the atz's, don't rotate them as much as i should got around 25xxx on them and there well over half tread if not 3/4 tread left on them. I will never run any other tire except for the baha atz. I've only rotated twice and tread wear is perfect. A good alginment does wonders for tires, ruined my set of my mickey mud tires, got an alginment after i got my atz's and have been real happy since. I run 285/70/17's hopes this helps.
2004dirtymax 03-01-2010, 05:15 AM I will only buy pro comp xtremes from now on. I rotated mine about every 3k and I got 50k out of my last set. They were great in mud and snow and handled great on dry pavement. I live in the foothills and all our roads are rough chipseal so I can only imagine the miles I would have got in the flatland. Rotation is the key.
dsteedsman 03-01-2010, 02:51 PM I run 35x12.5/20s right now. This is my second set on two different trucks. I love em.
hard2kill 03-01-2010, 06:44 PM its a 50/50 split between the extremes and the atz's.........this is a tough one!!!!! i really wanna see some close up pics of the size i wanna run if anyone has them....that would be awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2004dirtymax 03-01-2010, 07:54 PM You will not get anywhere near the mileage with the atz
hard2kill 03-01-2010, 09:39 PM ????? procomp wear better then atz?
G-MAC 03-01-2010, 10:20 PM After reading all these posts I thinking about going with the procomps. I always like the way they look. Where would be a good place to buy them? 4wheel parts maybe?
matt4216 03-01-2010, 11:22 PM After reading all these posts I thinking about going with the procomps. I always like the way they look. Where would be a good place to buy them? 4wheel parts maybe?
4 wheel parts has a buy 3 get one free sale a couple times a year on the pro comps. I bought mine at Americas Tire Co. ( same as Discount Tire). They matched the the 4 wheel parts buy one get one free price i got quoted. I went with Americas Tire Co because they are a bigger company and in my experience easier to deal with as far as rotations and balancing.
hard2kill 03-01-2010, 11:42 PM im still in a toss up between the 2....would love too see pics of each in the size i want an compare look since performance is pretty equal....
confrontational 03-02-2010, 12:42 AM I have nothing but great things to say about my X-AT's.
chevyinlinesix 03-02-2010, 01:00 PM I am very sure the Pro Comp Xtreme A/T's I got for my dad are the exact size you are looking at. I will snap a few pictures of them tonight. Be forewarned, they are on an F-250 ):h
2004dirtymax 03-02-2010, 04:39 PM Stay away from 4 wheel parts. I went to get my second set and they added more cost to the amount for this and that. Plus mount and balance price and if you have them shipped they add more shipping. I was stuck and went to one of there stores. Then after telling them not to remove my steel stems three times which were new I didnt think to look but when I got home 175 miles away I had rubber stems with chrome covers. never again.
hard2kill 03-03-2010, 06:21 AM wow that sucks i hate assholes like that ^^^^^^
thanx those pics would be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clm7214 03-03-2010, 07:41 AM I really liked my ATZ's but I had the 5 rib version. I'm sure its the same casing and tread compund though. I rotated and balanced them once in about 35K miles before I sold the truck. Wore even and didn't vibrate one bit. They were D's and rode very nice, but were very well mannered towing. I have always had great luck with Mickey Thompson, and have run almost every truck tire they make. Thinking about a set for new truck, the rears seem to be wearing very fast since EFI live.:D
floriduramax1 03-03-2010, 08:21 AM I have been thru about every tire. I love my 315 BFG's. But that's the only size I like. I ran the 305 bfg's and they suck! Wiped out a set in 10k! Couldn't even hear them spin, which helped contribute to their premature wearing... Lol Also love the Terra Grapplers/ Toyo Open Country but they wear down too quickly under my right foot!
chevyinlinesix 03-03-2010, 11:57 AM Everything's a bit dirty, but they are the same size you are looking at. You can see how deep the tread is compared to a standard padlock key (about 3/4"). Sorry it took me a bit longer to get the pictures, but I'm sick, and it's cold outside. The truck is stock height, stock rims.
dmax_01 03-03-2010, 04:40 PM I love my pro comp extreme A/T's i have about 25K on them right now between daily driving, sled pulling, and a few burnouts here and there! They are wearing good on the h2's. I have the 305/65/17 on mine and they look great! I got my from National Tire and Wheel out of Wheeling, WV on the buy 3 get 1 deal. They are great to deal as well!
hard2kill 03-03-2010, 08:21 PM chevyinlinesix- thanx for the pics man nice looking tire ! hope you feel better friend
dmax_01- do you have any pics of the hs's with the extemes on them id love to see your truck too !!! thanx guys
10second 03-05-2010, 05:58 PM I have always run BFG A/Ts on past 4x4's and was a bit sad to buy my old truck back with pro comp extreme MT tires. I have been running on them for 10 months now and have to say I am pretty impressed with them both on the highway and in the snow. I just wish that they were 35's.
hard2kill 03-07-2010, 09:09 AM yea im gonna stick with an a/t tire so i can be at the dragstrip and try my hand at sled pulling plus its my dd so i dnt want another m/t.........i loved my stt's and my maxx traction m/ts but i need an aggressive at tire........so bfg's have been ruled out so its between atz and extremes
hard2kill 03-09-2010, 07:27 PM anyone have any sled pulling experience on either of these tires?
hard2kill 03-10-2010, 08:19 PM .......?????????????
chevyinlinesix 03-11-2010, 01:07 AM I don't have any money to fix something if it breaks pulling a sled, so no pulling for me.
MadMaxMike 03-11-2010, 01:43 AM anyone have any sled pulling experience on either of these tires?
I've pulled with my 37/12.50x17 X/ATs, great traction I just wish I woulda came off the line harder! I have 40,000+ on my first set of 315/76x16s and werent even to the wear bars when I got my 37's on H2's which now have 20,000 on them and are over 50% yet.
Awesome tires:cool:
Mike
luv4thechevy 03-11-2010, 02:34 AM Im in the same boat here.... i think im going to go with the comps... 35/12.5/17.... do they make them in a 285/75/17? Whats your opinion on the 285's vs the 35's?
hard2kill 03-11-2010, 06:14 AM id split the difference....305-70-17 its about 34in tall and 12.2 in wide
JCT404 03-11-2010, 07:19 PM I had both Pro-Comp and BFG A/T's... it's a toss up for me as far as milage...they both wear good if you rotate them on a regular basis. But I will say the Pro Comps look better mounted on a rim.
HiDo1AR 03-26-2010, 05:15 PM I've ran the Pro-Comp tires for the past 6 yrs. I had a set of Pro-Comp Extreme M/T's 265/70/17's and loved um. I just bought a set of ATZ's 285/70/17's and they look really nice mounted on my Moto Metal 950's. I do not like the BFG's in my opinion but Pro and Mickey are very equal in life span.
