I have a 2004.5 with the LLy and want advice on performance upgrades. I've been looking at both edge attitude/juice and the diablo programmers. Also looking at exhaust upgrades removing the catalytic converter.
I want to be safe as far as my transmission and turbo.
I've heard the edge can cause more trans problems
Please advise

Edge is safer on the trans then the predator but the edge does have enough power in the higher levels to do damage to the tranny as well.
Do you have a need for top speed limiter removal or speedo correction for tire size? If not I would probably recommend the Juice/attitude.

Actually the edge will back off if it senses slippage or egt's exceed a level you pick. The predator will not back off and will gladly let you melt your turbo or trash you trans is power levels are too high. You need to get guages if you go with a tuner. You should also go with a 4" exhaust, preferably with no cat, to reduce egt's.

I've heard the edge causes hard shifts even on low settings. I want to spend about 1,200$ and get the best combo of performance and power

I think you have the predator and the edge reversed. No hard shifts with edge if you have it set to defuel on shifts. With the predator you will get hard shifts until the allison re-learns becuse of the added power. The predator will not defuel on shifts.

What modifications do I need to get as far as exhaust with the MBRP 4inch so I do not throw codes?

Please try a search for Blocker Plate and Finger sticks.. and check the Power and Performance section out that has programmers and exhaust info galore! Answers to all your questions can be found there.
welcome aboard!

What is the best programmer that includes the tire recalibration. I see the Predator, Hypertech, Quadzilla and Superchip all have this feature. I am concerned about the predator high EGT's. I will be towing around 10k. The Quadzilla says they have the lowest egt's. Comments?

The Predator DOES defuel on the shifts as does the Edge. The Predator could stand to defuel less on the shifts as could the Edge. I never had hard shifts on the Predator, but it was a bit loopy (sloppy if anything) on the trans relearn.

Really, that is the first I have heard someone say that the predator defuels on shifts.
I have been told that it does not defuel on shifts and that is the reason for the hard shifts while the allison re-learns dut the to the higher power level. I have read of many people saying that they have hard shifts with predator until the allison re-learns.
I don't have one so I can't speak from personal experience but I have been thinking about getting one. If it does defuel that is good but I'm not so sure it does based on what I've seen people say.

So...does the Predator really defuel on shifts or not? Anyone?

I've never heard of hard shifts with the Predator on initial install. If you replace stock programing with one of the higher Predator tunes the shifts will slip really bad until the relearn process has completed. If you go from a higher tune to a lower or stock tune, the shifts will be hard.
