I'm thinking about putting in a shift kit into my 4L60E tranny. Now I saw 2 things out there. First on is the B&M 'shift improver' kit. and the second one is a electronic one that appears just to plug into somewhere.
Just wondering if any of you guys have put either one of these things into your truck and what the result was.
Thanks..

I put a B&M shift improver in a turbo 350 transmition. I chose the towing setup. I really liked it. It had firm, positive shifts. Not at all harsh. Don't know about the electronic version.

I know others might not think they are good, but I guess it depends on how far you want to go. I have one of the electronic B&M Shift Plus modules on my truck right now, and it was reccomended to me by a tranny shop, and it works pretty good. It is a very easy install too, only 2 wires. For hard use, I do think that a goog quality "real" shift kit is going to be better though.

The "Shift Improver" kits actually recalibrate fluid pressures to the areas most needed. The electronic modifiers can only do what the trans has the capacity to adjust to. There are maximum pressures governed by spring and valve pressures that can't be exceeded by electronic control. The control is simply for "shift feel" at different throttle and load settings.

The shift kits can be designed to increase shift pressure, spring pressure and orifice size to actually cause more oil to flow to various components throughout the different operational ranges. These can be varied to match load and speed requirements. All these adjustments are at the mercy of the oil pump and it's flow capabilities. Only so much can be obtained within design limits of the pump and components.

The load-carrying capabilities of the clutch and band materials, oil flow and heat dispersal govern the overall ability of the trans to "do the job". Adding more clutch discs and plates (that are thinner) to a clutch pack lowers it's ability to give off heat. It can fail under heavy load even after modification.

The shift kit is a good modification for normal use and will increase the life of the transmission to some degree without sacrificing too much driver comfort. In essence, it will increase the pressures to the clutches and bands, preventing slippage without breaking the u-joints!
