Ok in the next few weeks i'll be changing my coolant, is water safe for the summer? Which one runs hotter coolant or water? Just curious here, thanks.

they say coolant runs cooler just make sure u use 50/50

Always put coolant even in the summer. Coolant has corrosion protection.
As Crazy said, 50/50 which means 50% water and 50% coolant.

Never thought about corrosion, thanks.

Water actually cools better than antifreeze, due to the viscosity difference (antifreeze is actually pretty thick by itself). You dilute it with water to lower the viscosity, which gives better cooling capabilities. The antifreeze is added to help prevent corrosion due to the impurities in most water. The antifreeze will change the water's PH, lowering the potential for corrosion while also causing a lower freezing point. You always want to run a combination of both, generally at 50/50 which will generally yield a freezing point of about 30* F below zero.

What about pure water? A friend of mine once told me that water collected from my dehumidifier could be used as coolant, supposed to be pure.

I wouldn't run water all summer. Maybe for a month or two

You "should" always use distilled water in your cooling system, but you should also always use antifreeze...

Or at least distilled water and water wetter....

I would still be leery to use it, since the PH is still fairly low yielding a higher potential for corrosion. I do know that even pure water will cause corrosion, although it is less than with normal tap water.

I recommend using the 50/50 mix just to keep things safe. Also, do not use the DexCool. That stuff corrodes engine components like nothing I have ever seen before... I recommend flushing it out and refilling using normal green antifreeze. It is cheaper, cools the same, and corrodes far less than the DexCool.

Distilled water or buy a pre mix 50/50 solution. I would not run the tap water here or anywhere else for that matter. The city tap water here where I live is hard as a rock, loaded with calcium and full of dissolved solids, that would just love to lay down in yr cooling system & hibernate...

Preventing surface boiling in side the water jacket is most important, use anitfreeze.

Besides lowering the freezing point of water I believe antifreeze also raises the boiling point making it a better coolant than pure water because it can absorb more heat before it reaches its boiling point

Yep, that's why the "antifreeze" name has been dropped for the most part and now it's commonly referred to as coolant.

The glycol both lowers the freezing point, and raises the boiling point of water.
